Nice! There's so much to like about French coins of that era. I'm a fan of the big 10 centimes myself.
Here are some recent pickups from Heritage for my Hungarian Artex Restrikes set. Hungary 1896 UP Taler Restrike (possibly 1.25 Taler? read below) NGC PF66 CAMEO Artex Restrike Mintage: 789 This is the first one I've seen with any sort of cameo. This coin is an upgrade for me from a PF66, and the second time I've upgraded, but I was more interested in it since NGC labeled this one as a 1.25 Taler not a Taler. I've seen them do that once before for this piece, and I'm wondering if it has a thicker planchet than the typical strikes. I'll have to weigh it in the slab and compare to my current NGC slabbed Taler. Hungary 1929BP UP 5 Pengő X-Pn12.2 Klippe Restrike (Saint Ladislaus Pattern) NGC PF67 ULTRA CAMEO Artex Restrike Mintage: 1,084 Hungary 1938BP UP 5 Pengő X-Pn13.2 Klippe Restrike (Saint Istvan Pattern) NGC PF66 ULTRA CAMEO Artex Restrike Mintage: 1,091 Hungary 1935BP UP 2 Pengő X-Pn11.2 Klippe Restrike (Ferenc Rakoczi Pattern) NGC PF66 ULTRA CAMEO Artex Restrike Mintage: 1,011 Hungary 1935BP UP 2 Pengő KM-513 Klippe Restrike (Pazmany University) NGC PF66 CAMEO Artex Restrike Mintage: 1,011 This completes my Artex Restrike klippe set. There were only 5 klippes in the set, and I already had the fifth (the klippe version of the Taler at the top). The mintage figures are roughly the same for these, but the Pazmany seems to be the scarcest of the 5 by far, followed by the Saint Ladislaus. The other 3 are about equally common.
Super design all things considered, however I am not a fan of the pebble surface fields on the obverse, they distract too much from the portrait. Frost the fields and gloss the portrait, or the other way around would be much better. As it is, the fields and portrait are both mirrored and it just looks kind of clunky. The reverse however, both for 2016 and 2017 is unbeatable.
Yep. There were a few others in the auction as well, but they weren't upgrades for me except for the 1896 5K restrike. I got outbid on that one, but I wasn't going to bid that strongly to upgrade from a 67 UCAM to a 68 UCAM. There are a few 69 UCAMs out there, and I'm waiting for one of those to pop up. I actually had 3 of those klippes already in the original presentation case, but they were darkly (and colorfully) toned from the case and wouldn't have gotten the CAM/UCAM if I submitted them.
Pulled from a bag of mostly holed or damaged coins at coin shop that is more of just a bullion dealer.
Few recent pickups. Haven't been buying as much due to the holidays and I've also been really trying to narrow down my focus. I've just been spending too much haha.
Picked this up today at the local flea market (before the ice froze over again) along with a full set of small sized Canadian Cent key dates:
I received this yesterday. Enjoying reading about and collecting Spanish and American colony Reales and Escudos. I have a hard time turning down ones with nice patina and without distractors. 1792 8 Reales from Mexico. I'm not much on slabbed coins but this one was already done. Tempted to crack it out so it fits in the album with the rest.
Sometime ago I sold this colorful sower and haven't been happy about it since. Just got a chance to replace it with this equally colorful PCGS MS62 2 Franc piece.
