The term "dump issue" is used for British Halfpennies dated 1717 to 1719 and Farthings in 1717. Nobody seems too sure why "dump" but the coins were smaller and thicker than previous and subsequent issues. It may be because they looked as if someone had "dumped" a pellet of molten copper on the die and then pressed in the other half - but that is only a guess. Many other foreign coins are also termed "dump issues" - particularly in India and central Asia.
Some of the India princely states silver rupees I collect are dump issues too, and I have wondered the same thing before.

I've always liked that design of 1/2/5 Ore, but I've never actually picked any out when I've visited the LCS.
