Not something I have collected before but happy to receive. 1965 set of Greece drachma coins. Good friends took some time to visit there on vacation and brought these back as a gift. Don't know much about them but the 20 Drachma is silver.
Picked this up cheap with ebay bucks, NGC AU details hairlines. This coin has been released from its plastic prison to live a normal life.
Finally got a Model Penny after seeing one posted here. I know there is several varieties but this type is fine.
This is the most common "Nose to R" type, which is further subdivided by the number of lines on the "1" on the reverse. Good luck counting, I went batty trying to figure mine out...
Common is good enough for me. May get a Model Half Penny later on but different "types", no big deal. Not an area I intend to focus on.
The rarer varieties are nearly impossible to find. "Nose to T" and PENNEY are several of the desirable ones, as is the one that's actually dated 1844. I just parted with mine. Someone else can love it.
hu, had to look that up...had no idea what that coin was. so, these weren't legal tender, just a proto-type? this not a coin but a jeton commemorating a spanish victory in the franco-spanish war. Jeton of Philip IV, 1657 O: Philip IV, VALENCIANAM LIBERASTI CONDATUMQUE / RECUPERASTI; R:Valenciennes , MICARULOSO DEO / HOSTEM FUGASTI. Struck in Antwerp Celebrating the Spanish victory at Valenciennes in the Franco-Spanish War. 32 mm, 5.8 g.
That rouble is crazy-nice, and the cameo contrast is stunning. I'm also interested in the date 1844, for personal/religious reasons.
Nice surprise to find in mailbox after a long hard day at work. 100th Anniversary of Icelandic Banknotes. Marks and scratches are on slab, not coin. Toning is nicer than what appears in photo. Iceland 1986 500 Kronur. Mintage 15,000 NGC MS66
Another inexpensive but interesting addition to the World Mint/Proof set collection. The coins are one year only designs that have pictorial images rather than the usual plain denomination images found on Yugoslavian circulating coins. Another unusual item is the 50 Para has Coin alignment on it's reverse while all the others are of medal alignment. Also has the denomination on the reverse while the others are on the obverse. Yugoslavia 2000 Mint Set Mintage NA
Three very different coins I picked up recently. 1812 Britain 1 shilling sixpence token. Even though it's worn, I think I got a good deal assuming it's real, as it only cost a few dollars. The second is an upgrade for my New Zealand collection. 1965 florin. The third I honestly bought because it's so darned weird. 2001 Netherlands 1 gulden. I don't know what's going on with this coin.
