Made for collectors only of course, but still a cool design. :) That piece is from a three-coin set that Estonia issued in the last pre-euro year; the set was dedicated to history (25 kr), nature (50 kr) and people (100 kr). This design has something to do with Mother Earth and the "soul birds" of our ancestors ...

New Olympics $2 coins from Australia. These are the first 2 of 6 coins to be released.

I like those designs. They just release so few of these the prices generally are inflated :p

You can't get cheaper than face value. $2 coin for $2. :)

every now and then they have some good ones on Ebay. the key to spotting high graded ones for me is seeing the full detail in the head band on the woman. and the 2 stars detail on the eagles wings on the reverse of the coin.

Just picked this one up this week in Sydney, a Type II 1855 half sovereign.

One of only two business strikes known.

wow! in my 2004 4th edition Krause catalog it only shows 1 type for that 1855 date. KM#1 Australia 1/2 sovereign. .917 gold, mintage-21,000 , weight- 3.9940 g or .1177 oz.

    grade/value
    F-$7,500 VF-$15,000 XF-$40,000 UNC-$90,000
curious as to how much you paid for this rare coin ? and what grade would you put on this coin ?

Good luck with that, fairly abundant up through Choice Almost Uncirculated. If your tastes run more towards Choice to Gem Mint State, you will almost certainly be disappointed. The coins, beautiful as the design may be, are nearly impossible to find in true UNC.

I'll post them up when I buy them. I bought 1934 and 1938 Melbourne proof sets from the same sale too but they'll need to go to PCGS for restoration. I'll post pics when I get them back.

Yeah, I'll be sending it to PCGS shortly.

Arrived last night from the Royal Mint in London.

I love the birds and clouds in the background. Also notice the wrinkles on the Queen Mum's neck.

Does this count as "First Strike" or 'Early Release" ?
