My coin shop doesn't really specialize in world coins so you can find some good deals there. They all know me by name and I've been coming there for years so I think they give me some deals sometimes. After I picked out the coins I wanted the employee was looking them up in Krause and I was reading the book values as he did and he was consistently quoting me prices around half of the book value.
This arrived from Portugal this evening. A special proof set commemorating the 50th Anniversary of UNICEF. This is a stunning set which might jump to the top of my list for favorite proof set. 1999 Portugal Proof Set Mintage 15,000
Nice. I think Portuguese coins are underappreciated. Maybe because not many Americans have roots there. But they have some nice designs.
I fully agree, I also think that Portugal has had some really amazing coins and mostly with low mintage numbers. But maybe I'm bias given that I'm Portuguese.

I got into ancients in 2010 due to the collectors here and buying my first one on here too. Still got it.
This is a series that I have wanted for a long time. I finally found a set of all three in Germany. I have been waiting almost 2 weeks and they finally arrived. Aside from a spot on the reverse of one coin and some surface marks on one of the obverse, I am very happy with the set. Mintage was 5,000 each. 0.9990 Silver and 0.3854 ASW. Hemingway is most remembered for "The Old man and the Sea", For Whom the Bell Tolls" and "A Farewell to Arms". He won the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1954. Hemingway kept a permanant home in Cuba during the 40s and 50s. He died in 1961 from suicide.
