The tiny Republic of Transnistria came up wit a unique set of Coins? for 2014. they are made of Plastic! or some type of composite. Each has a different shape and color and shows a Russian hero. The 1 Ruble pictures Alexander V. Suvorov, a military leader. The 3 Ruble shows Franz PavlovichDe Volan, an engineer under Suvorov. The 5 Ruble shows Pyotr A Rumyantsev-Zadunaisk, a Russian general who served during the reign of Catherine II, and Catherine II (the Great) is on the 10 Ruble. 11 Rubles = approximately one U S Dollar I have no way of finding the mintage numbers but the last population figure I have for Transnistria is 550,000. So maybe one or two each per person. Interesting set to be sure. I paid $3.99 for this set. I also found a listing on ebay for a set certified by NGC as MS 70 for $84.50. Maybe I should send these in for slabbing.
Got such a set too. Apparently they were primarily produced for people like you and me, not really for local use. Some info about specifications (no "mintage" figures though): http://www.cbpmr.net/?id=202&lang=en At least those pieces do not have the Soviet Union style CoA ... Christian
I read up on the country last night. Sounds like it is not recognized by anyone accept three other countries that no one recognizes... It's roughly twice the size of Columbus, Ohio.
well no. I might breakup a couple of proof sets. I can see you getting upset over that . ? seems like to much trouble to break that coin out. I am gonna leave it in there.
Upset? not me. So far I have resisted the urge to break up any of my set. Believe me it can be hard. Some of those sets have some really nice coins in them. Some sets the entire value may be based on a single coin. I think keeping them intact will preserve the value if and when I decide to resell and collect something else. Who knows.
How do you like that one: an obverse of the Holland 1776 gold ducat and the reverse with a Peru (!) arms? A token struck in brass. This is the only one hybride of this type known.
Maybe some kind of Rechenpfennig? With those you can come across various weird combinations. Have never seen that one before. Christian
I used to be a die-hard US coin collector but in 2016 I only bought a single US coin while this is already my second acquisition for my Germany/German Reich collection: Not sure what that is but how do you like my new "Reichspfennig"? ;-)
Hmm, a nazi coin in a plastic coffin would not be the pièce de résistance in my collection. But this one sure is in an excellent condition! As for Rechenpfennige (reckoning counters), those were pieces designed like coins but not used for payments. They were primarily used for calculations on a board; many were made by Lauer in Nürnberg. Christian
It may be a kind of so-calle rekenpenning or Rechenpfennig, I don't know it. Even the auctioneer was not sure, because in a catalog the coin is described as "Holland Provincie (1581-1795) - Speelpenning (?) gebaseerd op Nederlandse Gouden Dukaat 1776 met op KZ het wapenschild van Peru". Read more here. The only certain thing is that on the obverse we may find a typical Dutch gold ducat design, and the Peru arms on the reverse (despite the fact that these coins were not intended for the South American market, however they were well-recognized worldwide).
Picked these up. I was introduced to this seller who sells a ton of high grade world coins. However, it seems like more and more people bid so I paid a bit more than I would have liked for these. I like this one because it's a majorly worn die
