An interesting idea to use a frame but let the design go beyond that. :) By the way, the text on the other side ("dat is mijn leven, het vermogen tot scheppen" - "that is my life, the ability to create") is from a letter that Vincent van Gogh wrote to his brother Theo.

    Hello ButItsSoShiney,

Nice coins. I have this Carlos I coin that looks copper (like yours) but is really toned silver.

I wish it was that way in the U.S. The premium for slabbed coins here is quite a bit, and it bothers me. I wouldn't mind paying $30-$50 more for a nice slabbed gold coin, but the premium for modern coins like dollar coins is wayyy to much for me to even consider buying them.

Here's some more from what I'm calling the "We Buy Gold Hoard". Sorry, these are mostly US coins, so I hope no one minds them in the foreign gloat thread:

What are the red-colored coins in the lower right? A close-up photo would be nice. :smile

Those are OPA tokens (World War Two ration tokens). If you hold your cursor over the picture, a larger version will pop up on your screen.

If you want the 1200dpi version, well, I can't even get Flickr to accept a file that large.

More from the "We Buy Gold Hoard". These are mostly Mexican 2 & 5 centavos from the teens, 20's, and 30's. There's also a few other odds and ends in this scan, including a silver Canadian dime and a US trime from 1866:

And the last of the "We Buy Gold Hoard". Anyone on here a fan of British / Commonwealth coppers?

I think I messed up those last 2 attachments... is there a daily upload limit? I'm having trouble uploading any more (I get a "boink" red exclamation point).

Total count was 46 silver coins + 297 other coins & medals. Or, to put it another way, $0.23 each. I think I'm going to be checking in with a few more of those PM pop-up shops.

Sure. I'll send you a PM and we can work somthing out. At least in my neck of the woods, the red ones seem to be about 5x more common than the blue ones.

Most of the OPA tokens in this lot are duplicates of ones that I already have. There are letter combinations on them that set the tokens apart (ie: XY), and most of the combinations are about equally common. I'm not clear on the history - I think each letter combination represented a certain thing that the ration tokens were redeemable for, such as 1 lb of beef or 1 gallon of milk. Does anyone know of a reference for that?

I originally scanned them at 600 dpi, so I have even larger versions if you'd like them. I cut the width from 7060 pixels to 2000 just so I wouldn't waste server space.

Even at that high of resolution, some of the dime sized coins are only 300 pixels in diameter. IMO, that's not enough to make out fine detail. Unfortunately, my laptop doesn't have the RAM to crunch 1200 dpi pictures. I really need to get my desktop setup again (it got hit with a virus 3 months ago and I haven't gotten around to reinstalling everything on it).

Until then, are the pictures I uploaded large enough or would you like a copy of the 600 dpi originals?

Sure! I'm happy to make a few bucks off of this hobby and find duplicate coins a good home. Send me a PM and we can work out details.
