Effigy303 => sweet, sweet eagle-n-snake ... oh, and cool reverse (yah, I love that coin) ... very cool
Picked these up earlier this week. I'm a sucker for 2 Reales with honest wear and patina. The 1/2 Real just happened to follow it home. Apologize for my lack of photography skills. First new coins added in nearly a year. Thanks.
picked this large notgeld(ish) coin up, have always wanted one.. i guess these weren't really supposed to be circulated? obverse shows Baron Heinrich Friedrich Karl Von Stein and the horse on the reverse is associated with westphalia where this coin/token was minted. there is a westphalian horse breed as well. this is pretty darn big! 46 mm and 30.4 g
Right, the Westphalian "notgeld" pieces were fundraisers rather than means of payment. They were issued in various denominations, from 50 Pfennig to 1 Billion (US: trillion) Mark, but did not circulate. Some feature Baron vom Stein, others show Annette von Droste-Hülshoff. The horse is a "Saxon Steed" which is still used in the flag and CoA of two German states, North Rhine Westphalia and Lower Saxony. Christian
I do not collect Mexican coins. But somehow a voice in my head told me "comprame chico!"... here's my first 2 Reales piece:
i got this today from a misc bin for 7.00, a little bit below melt value, ive been buying british empire/commonwealth silver criwns of differnt types anyway, so it fit.
Here are a couple of little gems I've picked up recently that I like. Paraguay 1903 10c MS66 NGC; Colombia 1886 5C (raw)
Nice condition but keep in mind that this issue commemorates the An mein Volk appeal. Prussia had lost the war against Napoleonic France in 1807, and resumed it on the date that is mentioned on the coin. Napoleon's defeat (Leipzig 1813, ultimately Waterloo 1815) came later ... Christian
I splurged on some silver coins a little this weekend at my local coin shop. Here are some of my favorites that I picked up. I also bought a few more British florins from the 1920s and some half crowns from the 20s and 30s, and 45 U.S. Barber quarters.
Received this a couple weeks back. 1973 (West) Germany 5 Mark commemorative coin honoring Copernicus on his 500th birthday. In hand the coin shows lots of luster and cartwheel. The photos really show that it is starting to tone/tarnish. .600 silver content, IIRC, for a total silver weight of about 1/4 oz (fairly large & heavy coin). Rob
First off, great coins you all have been sharing. These next three coins are not recent additions but my 7 year old showed me that I forgot to take them out of their original packaging and decided to do it for me (trying to be helpful). They are 10 Mark commemorative proofs. Sorry for the picture quality. First one is a 750 years of Berlin from 1987.
