Neat coin! Do you know who the obverse portrait represents? 1937 Denmark 2 Kroner, struck to commemorate the 25th year of King Christian X's reign. Christian X (also the King of Iceland!) was a conservative, authoritarian ruler. During the German occupation of Denmark in WWII, he became a strong symbol of resistance. Throughout the occupation, the 70-year old monarch rode on his horse through the streets of Copenhagen every day without a guard, greeting the people along his way.
Would not actually call it a coin but apparently the head is that of a Saracen: http://numismatics.org/search/results?q=issuer_facet:"Neeton's" Christian

People who live in a kingdom, principality etc. today may find the concept perfectly normal, but back then ... not necessarily so. Plus, it's part of the royal title, and even put on coins. The other aspect is the continuation of the title on the other side: It is not "Spain" but "the Spains", plural. Which emphasizes the regions and provinces that the country consisted of ... Christian
It also has something written along the edge of the coin but it is too worn to make out more than a few letters here and there. Edit - I think it may say LEY PATRIA REY
Right, that edge inscription (i.e. Law - Fatherland/Nation - King) was most probably influenced by the words on some French coins: After the 1789 revolution (but before Louis XVI lost his "royal job" and ultimately his life) they used the motto "La Nation - La Loi - Le Roi" in France ... Christian
