Here is the results of the 300 year set for my oldest Grandson. Still waiting for the 1698 and 1898 for the youngest. Idea is to get them interested in coins. Really hope this works. If not, next year they get toys. Also adding a lot of 21st Century types in IHC, Buffalo Nickels, Mercury dimes, Kennedy and Franklin halves, Ike Dollars, etc. Whatever it takes. Plus I'll let them know how much their 2012 mint sets are worth now. Made them swear not to open the mint sealed boxes. The Kreuzer is paper thin.
Thanks Mat, I think my grandson, Matt, will like these. Maybe not as much as the wireless headphones for his iPhone, but he'll like them.
Today the final coins came in for the 15 year old I don't even want to calculate the cost per gram on the 1.2g Kreuzer. I don't see how these survived. Anyway he also gets the potpourri of 21st Century coins along with the USN Kabar he wanted. Wow! It is sharp and his mother approved, even suggested it. Aint gonna mess with him. Hope he doesn't add anymore chop marks to the 8 Reales.
Nice gifts for the grandsons sonlarson! I may have to try something along those lines with my nephew, my sister mentioned to me he's been showing some interest.
i had just lost a bid for a lot of coins by 5 c a day ago. imagine waking up at 4 in the morning for this haha but I soon found some of those very same coins in a junk bin at a local coin shop for 30 c a piece, and really, I didn't do too bad at all. figure catalogue values put me at an advantage of $8 for the price I paid. sometimes luck just befalls you I guess in fact I found 2 silver pieces too, but in their condition I wouldn't bother trying to sell them for a profit. probably only worth melt value.
I had this year already in MS, but could not resist this particular specimen, KM 142.1 Chile 1881 1 Peso,
today marked another milestone in my discovery of the existence of local numismatics, apart from the Singapore mint and the few coin shops I've known of till now. ventured into the "old fogey" part of town and found at least 5 coin shops and dealers nestled into one old shopping complex. horribly pricey though, even if I considered S&H for online purchases, but I did manage to make my dollar's worth with a 1984 2 franc from Switzerland. worth more than twice face value disregarding condition. probably and XF-AU, but the thing is every single coin in that bin was going for a dollar, even the small, aluminum and very recent types.
Yesterday's mail arrived today due to the ice. Koala is for my wife, elephant for my daughter, and 5 Mark for me since I needed to spend $6 more to round up to the minimum $50 purchase requirements.
