couple 19th century... couple 20th century.... the vatican pics didn't turn out well, it's pretty really.
Haiti 1953 10 Centimes Haiti 1975 10 Centimes Haiti 1958 5 Centimes I gleaned all these Haiti coins from a bargain box. François Duvalier (Papa Doc) was ruler of Haiti from 1957 until his death in 1971. In 1964 he became “president for life”. Jean-Claude Duvalier (Baby Doc) was president 1971-1986. The 1953 & 1958 Haiti coins are Copper-Nickel-Zinc (German silver) as they certainly have a silver appearance.
I just got this today for $5.00. it is a 1902 iran 5000 dinar. do you guys think it would be worth having graded?
The short answer is no. I would not have the coin slabbed. Let me know if there is something in particular that makes you think the coin needs to be in a slab. I cannot see anything unusual such as rarity or variety to warrant the cost of slabbing it. BTW, I really (really) like the design on Iran coins including the lion with sword & sun-burst. The design is really cool IMO.
thanks for the opinion. i like the sword and lion design too. i didnt hesitate at $5 because i was sure it was silver. it will fit nicely in my foreign silver collection, and for basically 1/3 of melt value i couldnt lose either. its my second big silver piece from iran.
Working on a new theme. What do you think. The mint set is in hard plastic which I polished and cleaned but still can't seem to get very clear photos. I'll keep trying.
Similar but different. Looks like someone sneezed on the 1 Krone. I am afraid to try acetone because of the copper content.
The coins from Iceland are attractive; I like the way they use the four "guardians" from the CoA individually for the different denominations. The Greenland pieces, hmm. Those are fantasy issues (third party products), but OK design wise. Christian
I knew they were pattern coins when I bought them. I just had to have the WOW! designs. Wish the U.S would come up with something like it.
5 franc coin of Louis Philippe. Louis took the throne after the unpopular, autocratic King Charles X. He tried hard to gain popularity with the common people and, in a bit of a public relations effort, called himself Roi Des Francais (King of the French) instead of the traditional Roi De France (King of France). Unfortunately, he was still forced to abdicate in 1848 in yet another French revolution. These 5 francs coins are some of the cheapest silver crowns available.
