Here are some awesome toners: Japan Hirohito (Showa Era) Yr. 53 (1978) 10 Sen with a velvety appearance , India 1957 Paise, Netherlands Antilles 1973 Cent (love that deep purple), and Germany 1991F 2 Pfennig almost neon looking
Since I received by trade a MS65 1 Mark from Goldmark, I started focusing on finding more specimens in that grade. The eye appeal makes it worth moving towards buying less coins, but rather looking for that special high grade coin where possible. Here is a recent upgrade Chile 1937 20 centavos. No specimen have been graded by NGC to date.
Here is an example of a Chile 1886 2.5 centavos uncirculated condition, but struck with a very worn die. Not uncommon in Latin coinage. Not aware of any graded specimens.
The Chile 1927 silver series, last circulating silver of Chile. A recent upgrade I got when on holiday. Not the best of engraving, but the later coins of the 5 and 2 pesos especially were struck with very crude dies. In order to obtain a good grade ms 65, one has to look for those very early strikes. I am still looking. Only two specimens graded with ms64 being the best. Would like to find that ms65.
KM 171.2 1927 peso thick numeral 1 has been documented in 0.5 and 0,5 varieties. The number 1 (1 peso) in documented pics and specimens I have look like in the large picture below. I have found an undocumented die variety showing top part of the 1 pointing downwards. Anyway, just for the record. I do see that my previous die variety descriptions are being used by some sellers in Chile. Useful for some.
I concur, splendid coins Derick. Does someone know why there are varieties for the numeric literals ('.' and ',') on Chilean coins?
This and seven other misc. copper & silver just arrived. The smallest, at ~16.2mm & 1.7gm. AU? 1913 Tsarist Russia 1/2 Kopek
Another of today's haul. Specs unavailable, 'cause I stuffed it into an AirTite immediately. Shows signs of abuse on the church side...lotsa small deep dings & scratches. 1934F Germany Potsdam Church 5 Reichsmark.
I see the 21 March; it's an important Nazi Party anniversary. Wikipedia has this to say about the date: "At the start of the Third Reich in 1933 there was a ceremonial handshake between President Paul von Hindenburg and the new Chancellor Adolf Hitler on 21 March 1933 in Potsdam's Garrison Church in what became known as the "Day of Potsdam". This symbolized a coalition of the military (Reichswehr) and Nazism." Coincidentally, Dachau concentration camp was completed that same day!
This's another of the recent haul. ~18.2mm; 2.4gm; reeded. It looks burnt, or smoke-stained...but is otherwise crisp. 1938 Republic of Colombia Diez Centavos:
~22.9mm; 5.0gm; inscribed edge, I just noticed! Symbols and words...I'll try to get pics. Sold to me as UNC; it has an odd toning that makes it resemble steel. The reverse is well done: in hand, the rider & horse seem to 'leave' the surface. 1896KB Kingdom of Hungary Millennium Commemorative 1 Korona
I saved the best for last, of course. No specs, as it went straight into an AirTite upon arrival; seller grade: XF. Nice handful, about like a Morgan...a Delight. Anyone know what the T.F. signifies? 1889 T.F. Republic of Peru Un Sol
for that date Santiago is the mint. not sure what the T.F. stands for ??? maybe it's something to to with the finess of the silver ? nice coin.
That should be the initials of the mintmaster or assayer. Thanks for not asking who "T.F." was. Christian
