Got this one yesterday. It's the most recent in a several year series of "Commemoration of Cavalry" 2 zlote coins from Poland.
I really like copper coins and when US get too expensive, I look at the Mexican series for bearable premiums. Not only do I enjoy the artistry and history of the coins, I think that Mexican coins are a great investment play. I believe that with US premiums being as high as ever and less and less people being able to step up and purchase them, that the levels of US prices might not be able to hold out forever. With the emerging affluence of Mexican people in the US, I believe that these people will desire to collect their culture and prices have nowhere to go but up. We are seeing this now in the Asian coin markets as we speak, and it is the same reason that affluent Chinese are bringing their coins back to the mainland, at any price. JMO, Matt
Agree 100% with your analysis. Unfortunately, the same applies in reverse to countries like Yemen. Some incredibly cool coins, but no one and I do mean no one, collects Yemen in Yemen, and the chances of any of that stuff ever appreciating is essentially zero. At least in my lifetime. 1,000 years from now, who knows....
Great design. Reminds me a little of the 1996 Great Britain soccer silver commem. Is this coin gold? Sure looks like it.
just returned from prague with a few nice bohemian coins from the 17th century, will post the pics when i get round to it.
Yeap it is .0999 oz and 99.9% Purity it was issued to commemorate Lithuania's win in Euro Basketball 2011 not yet listed in Krause. I am glad this turned out better than Russian Horoscope sign coin i purchased earlier, the mint coin didn't have any luster and the Leo design didn't look too impressive :rollling:. http://www.lb.lt/gold_in_the_hands_...llector_coins_issued_by_the_bank_of_lithuania Collector1966, Didn't even know about that coin might have to buy it to finish my Cleo collection
They should have went with a bigger nose. She was Greek after all, and many ancient portraits have her sporting a larger scnoz. I guess I am prejudice, with a large nose myself.
Cleo coin How about a little more info to convince us it's not a 50 piasters. Size, weight, does it really look gold? What's the other side look like?
Asking me? 50 and 100 pounds don't have any lettering by Cleo. And of course obverse is completely different.
I have a pair of those (1977, I think). They're very beautiful coins in person. I think they were a bit too large to be particularly useful in commerce though.
Here's a 1970 10-markaa coin from Finland that ended up being an impulse purchase because of the rather unusual design, and it was being sold at around melt to boot. Centennial of the birth of President Paasikivi
