1945s u.s. Administration of the philippines silver 50 centavos ~27.66mm; 10gm; reeded edge. Bright, white silver. AU minus. Here's another lass with strong appeal for me; she has no feet, but otherwise is nearly voluptuous 'neath her peignoir. An anvil, upon which rests a hammer she holds almost nonchalantly in her right hand, and in her left a sprig of some (sweet-scented?) greenery...a nose-gay. Robust fore-arms tell of a familiarity with physical labor...but she stands so poised, so obviously self possessed...a nymph, and perfectly at ease, unpretentious and unaware of us, deep in some private reverie...thinking of me, perhaps? I read too much, here, eh?
That is from a vision Constantine had in the 4th century ... 400 reis was equal to 1 cruzado in the 16-17c. Not sure whether that was still the case in 1816, but maybe they just kept the denomination. (Edit: A-ha, see here.) Yes, that is the mark of the Berlin mint. In that country (Deutsches Reich), Berlin/A was the mint with the biggest production share. Don't know whether gbroke has a collection of eagles; he sure has some very nice 5 DM eagles. Oh, and sorry for merging two replies into one post, but I guess you can all figure this out ... Christian
1940 Kingdom of the Netherlands Wilhelmina silver 1 Guilden ~28mm; 10gm; inscribed edge: * Z IJ * MET * ONS * GOD * in block letters; stars are 5-pointed; near AU Wilhelmina, depicted in the 50th year of her reign and 60th of her life. A remarkable Monarch if only for the strength she was to offer Dutch resistance during WWII, the second global conflict of her reign. She was my mother's heroine; Mom was born in Velsen, then near (now absorbed by) Amsterdam, in 1912. Her entire family emigrated through Ellis Island to upstate New York in 1924. If I had been fortunate enough to have a sister, she would certainly been named for Queen Wilhelmina. Fairly busy reverse, but the coin's condition makes it easy to discern. Not yellow, but bright silver.
1930 Nerlands Indies silver 1/4 Guilden ~18.95mm; 3.2gm; reeded edge, wide plain rims. Near AU. Not yellow, of course. White, bright. The reverse seems to display at least two scripts; one of them is inter-woven into the 7-peaked circular border around the other, which appears to be a form of Arabic.
Yr. 11 (1922) Empire of Japan Silver 50 Sen ~23.45mm; 5gm; reeded edge, not yellow. Circulated, plenty of luster. Could someone please confirm the date? Thanks!
1930 Republic of Panama Silver 1/4 Balboa ~24.2mm; 6.2gm; reeded edge, white & bright. The Panamanians must have made large mintage's of this series; they're everywhere, and reasonable. I was raised in San Diego, where I grew up with Balboa Park ready at hand...it was and is a delightful place to adventure, and so Balboa was somewhat prominent in my youthful lexicon. I pick 'em up when I can.
1887 Queen Victoria Large Silver Coin in pendant-bezel ~38.7mm; 29.7gm AS SHOWN! I don't know what to call this coin: A Crown, or a Pound, or a Guinea, or a Quid? Obviously I have done zero research...nor have I removed the bezel (yet). It was a recent yard-sale find, for an embarrassingly small amount. Though I did briefly consider summary education of the seller regarding potential value, a casual look around his hovel told me the effort would simply cost me money; I quickly abandoned the noble thought. Pearls Before Swine came to mind...nor am I remotely ashamed.
"400 reis was equal to 1 cruzado in the 16-17c. Not sure whether that was still the case in 1816, but maybe they just kept the denomination. (Edit: A-ha, see here.)" Once again, Christian: Excellent, and helpful. Thank you!

Done, complete, finished, over and out. I have officially completed my Unidos Estados Mexicanos Type set. Starting with the Reform act of 1905 and including the 1992 Reform act. One example of each circulating coin(except gold). The final piece arrived this evening. The elusive 1972/2 1 Centavo. Mintage 1,000,000. A tiny 13mm Brass coin. My book is complete and I will send off to be published later tonight. Then wait about 2 weeks to get my hard copy. The only thing that would make me happier would be to find a Dansco 7220 to place the coins in. 96 coins, total cost, probably too much. Link to book if anyone wants to view. http://www.blurb.com/books/4405132-estados-unidos-mexicanos
