    An 8?

Very nice. Is this L'an 8 on the reverse? Also the mint mark & engraver marks are on the reverse.

German States Prussia 2 Mark KM# 510 - Friedrich had cancer (and was dying). He ruled as King Friedrich III of Prussia from March to June 1888. Prussia issued 2 mark and 5 mark coins in his honor. Other 1888 2 and 5 mark coins have King Wilhelm II on the obverse.

    my favorite year :D : 1888

    3 kings of the german empire:-wilhelm I
    - Friedrich III
    - Wilhelm II (the 1888 with wilhelm II are very scarce, look out for those ;) )

1999 Coin issue from Mongolia reverse features diamond eyes; from what i understand it is part of a set that features the Tiger and Leopard (need confirmation).

I'm assuming, since those eyes are diamond and the FV is 1000T, that the coin is gold? Or is it the manganese alloy the US uses for "golden" dollars?

edit: NM, found on krause, it's ~0.25oz AGW ... NICE COIN!!!

Thanks actually i believe Krause is incorrect and its is 14k so its around .15oz also 24k coin of this size is typically 23-24mm (if it is silver or copper it would be around 26-27 mm) and this one is around 24.8 mm.

I think the 1936 Berlin Olympics were the very first TV images.[IMG]

    Brandenburg-Ansbach. Alexander Taler 1769, NGC MS-64

    Brandenburg-Ansbach. Alexander Taler 1769_f (richard p. ariagno collection)_small.jpeg Brandenburg-Ansbach. Alexander Taler 1769_r (richard p. ariagno collection)_small.jpeg

I really wanted the next two coins, but the reserve on the taler was pretty ridiculous and the 8 reales went for twice the estimate.

sedevacante_r.jpeg Oops... 5 attachment limit. Oh well, trust me that the other side's design is even more intricate.

Those "X Years of Television" coins will usually not refer to the very first occasion when that technology was used, but to the date when television became a regular, preferably everyday, feature in the issuing country. Germany for example issued such a 50 Yrs TV coin in 2002 (we sure have had that famous  design here), Italy had one in 2004, Austria in 2005 etc. ...

Edit: The Cook Islands piece apparently reminds of Kálmán Tihanyi's "radioskop" patent application, see here.

With this rare KM 219 2009 50 pesos error I close my collection for Chile and will move on to something new. The most I overpaid for a coin ever! At least it is in a good condition. From my best knowledge, only three specimens have been publically reported. One of them is currently for sale for 1800 US.
