As mentioned earlier in another post, bargains for shoppers of World coins can be found (quite easily). For example I just purchased off EBAY this 1979 (VS2036) 0.500 silver coin for $17.00. The real catcher is below images: Probably cleaned, yet it may be original 1979 surface. BUT only 15,000 were minted. Subject: Education for Village Women. It is from Nepal, and weighs 25 grams. KM# 842. Imagine a choice Lincoln cent with a total mintage of just 15,000! Gotta go. Gary in Washington
Nice find! Not a coin I'm familiar with, but I like the low mintage. What part of Washington are you in? I'm near Tacoma.
Nice coin!! Make sure the staples are squeezed with a pair of pliers so that they do not damage coins that are close by.
Low mintage, but my 2018 Krause catalog says it's only worth $17.00 in MS-65. has the value risen in todays real market ?
I set my own values. I like the coin. And yes I take the judgment of others into consideration as well. For a Nepal coin, it displays something I can relate to, an open book. I like that. When and if coin values rise, the rarer ones usually do best. As do those with some precious metals. No?? Gary in Washington
These types of finds are pretty great. It just reinforces the maxim that "demand drives value". I have a 1906 Liberia 50 cent in (~VF). It has a mintage of 24,000, but generally sells or is offered for $20-$30. Now, I would imagine the survival rate has got to be pretty low too, but if there is little demand low mintage is somewhat irrelevant. It's cool to buy for silver value though.
