Good job! I never thought to check Variety Vista for an ODV. Obviously someone else noticed it and did some research as far as the other dates that have it. Link for those interested - http://www.varietyvista.com/01b LC Doubled Dies Vol 2/Obverse Design Varieties.htm.

Too bad there aren't links to the individual dates listed. It seems like they've lumped them all into one ODV-015. To me, as you see in my 1942 image above, the "trench" is different in different years. ODV-016 "(Removal of trench smoothes profile outline)" is something I noticed with 1942-S as far as "smoothing" - only the "worm" on the forelock is evident and the one on the forehead is gone. And their ODV-017 is exactly what I noticed on 1943 cents.

It also seems to be convincing evidence that the PCGS designation of the two 1942 "high relief" experimental coins is not valid (but don't mention it on their forum). The die came from the same ODV hub as many other 1942 cents so it can't be some special high relief hub created just for those two. Below is the "high relief" coin and three other circulation 1942 cents.
