Missing letters, numbers and even parts of devices are very common as the result of a grease-filled die. It seems that this anomaly is most prevalent on Lincoln cents. Don't ask me why. Chris
Sheer volume of mintage, I think. If the percentage of affected strikes is the same as other issues, that's a bazillion Lincoln greasers.
