My local Coin Club meets once a month and each meeting has a door prize. Usually, the prize is a coin or a roll worth about $15-$20. But the December meeting is a gold coin give away and your number of chances is based on how many meetings you attended that year. Well, I had the winning ticket and won this! The dealer who provided it said it was worth about $265. Could be the start of another obsession
It's a great looking coin to starting a full set. The $2.50 Indian is the only gold set a reasonable person can afford to put together. The dealers price range would be correct. Most of the coins in this series would sell for about that price but there is one that will set you back a few thousand. Congrats on winning the door prize.
Great coin, but right now a nice AU can be had for a bit less. It's a good time to pick a few up if you were interested!
Great door prize...I'm not familiar with these strikes at all, but is that chin double struck, or am I just seeing double again?
Thanks @chascat ! I think what you are seeing is the effect of the designs incused in coin as is the case with the 1926 Quarter Eagle.
You're likely seeing reflections from the protected areas of luster inside that part of the incuse design.
