Presently out of my range as far as price and availability of pieces with good eye appeal, but how cool would these two look side by side https://www.ngccoin.com/price-guide...-mark-mb-65-1546-1562-cuid-180277-duid-402554 https://www.ngccoin.com/price-guide...-mark-mb-63-1546-1548-cuid-180275-duid-402551
Ooooh, those are nice. I've never happened to see those before. Thanks for the enlightenment. (Ennightenment?)
Yes very cool. Never heard of the 'Wendentaler' before, or the German State Luneburg. Here's the wikipedia article on Wendentalers: https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wendentaler
Yep, that Wikipedia article explains and shows what a Wendentaler is. The two moon pieces are not, as far as I know. They were issued by the city of Lüneburg. The Wendentaler coins are from there too but refer to the Wendischer Münzverein whose member cities were Lübeck, Hamburg, Wismar, Lüneburg, etc. By the way, the moon is an allusion to where, according to popular etymology, the city and its name supposedly come from: Lunaburgum - Moon City. Nice story but wrong ... Christian
I saw one of these up on eBay for sale a few weeks ago in an NGC slab. About $1700 from a reputable dealer. I had never seen one before either until then. Obviously a rare piece with a lot of collectability. If it was a U.S. coin, you could add at least one zero behind that price.
Check this one out: http://www.ebay.com/itm/BRUNSWICK-L...e=STRK:MEBIDX:IT&_trksid=p2055119.m1438.l2649
