Out of curiosity, what age qualifies you as a YN? I don't consider myself one (necessarily). I'm almost 19 but I've been collecting since I was 10ish. I see the term used but does it actually have a set frame or is it just opinion-based?
Ok. I didn't know what exactly that went as. I would interpret it as being someone who hasn't been collecting long, imo. I was just wondering how that went. Some people consider "young" to be different ages.
Young Numismatists (YN) covers collectors not just inexperienced, (who could be any age), but also below a certain age, (18 or 16), and therefor not working and not well financed. It is a group that are interested but cannot afford to really delve completely into the hobby but we wish to keep them interested and learning so that when they can afford it they are still engaged. If I win this contest, (or any contest on CT), I wish to donate any prize to a YN here. I have enough coins and books and think any help to YN is the best gift I can give back to this hobby. Chris
That's a very kind gesture, Chris. I carry a few foreign coins and wheats (usually from the 'teens) to give to my friends' kids. They're thrilled to receive them and a few of them have started collecting coins. I ran into one of them at the coin show on the weekend going through the bargain bins. Neat to see.
