That's just poor workmanship there. ANACS is starting to fall out of favor with me for many reasons......

I wonder why it was labeled like that, wierd.

How can a coin be PF proof and also PL prooflike?
It has to be one or the other and that's not a proof coin.
That being said,it's kind of cool to have both designations on one slab.

It's not both - it's a typo on the slab, it happens. That aside, based on Charlie's earlier description I'm amazed at the grade assigned.

Your kidding me. Isn't that the coin we all thought would be body bagged?

As far as I know no proofs were made in San Francisco in 1880.I'm glad it came back better than you thought.

    Did ANACS morph into PCI?

I think ANACS is going to be about the same as ICG....and known to overgrade.
I'm still going to hope that they are just getting some new workers and such and that they will change but for now I'm going to use NGC.

It's beginning to look as if the ANACS coins in the old holders will be more valuable than in the new ones considering the evidence that they may be a little looser than in the past.

Okay, I saw another Proof PL in a new ANACS slab today, this one was an 1883-O.

Unfortunately you are probably right. I had another submission ready for ANACS, but I am going to send it to NGC instead.

I am going to try to talk to them in person at the CSNS show in April(If I can convince my Dad to let me go).

Since I'm not an expert grader, for now I'm going to avoid coins in the new ANACS holders until it becomes more clear whether or not they have loosened their grading standards. In the short run, there is probably more money to be made by them by pumping up the grades. In the long run, well, like many business people they probably can't think that far ahead. Next thing you know we'll see some large batches of MS70s on HSN in ANACS holders.

Anyway, it's probably only a matter of time until we see some companies in China and India offering to grade coins for $1 per slab.

Are you talking about the show in Columbus? I'll be driving there from Toledo, probably drag my family along as well (dad enjoys coin collecting a bit). Maybe we'll bump into each other? And for once I won't be the youngest at a show ;)

Guess I won't see you there. I'll be going on Saturday since I have class until 4-6 on Fridays. I wouldn't even make it to Columbus before dark!
