Did that actually pass? Last I heard it died in congressional committee. Haven't heard anything new about it since then.

the problem is that the "extra" state quarters have been something that have been fought for for years and years and were somewhat worthy as a project. The thing is that the rest have been primarily a scheme to bilk coin collectors and aren't. It would be nice to see just twelve coins in 2010.

Second half of your first sentence is arguable lol... but I somewhat expected it would eventually pass, as usually happens in a contest between concentrated interests and diffuse opposition. That's as much of a political statement as I'll make here.

I don't really care about "schemes" to get collectors' money. If they make something I want to spend money on, great. If not, I just won't buy it. I'm glad that people are trying to make new coin designs and products... makes the hobby more interesting... even if it means missing the mark a little. If they make something I don't like, oh well, I just won't buy it, but thanks for trying. If they make something I do want and I trade money for it, both sides win. Got to love the free market and free enterprise.

Well it DID die in committee, but then Congressman slipped it into the "last minute got to pass it because we want to go home for Christmas and if we don't the government will shut down for a month 3,500 page omnibus spending bill that rolled all thirteen spending boils that by law we had to have passed by Sept 30th" Bill And since Bush had t sign it or be blamed for shutting down the government all kinds of Pork and special interest items were inserted in th bill because they would be passed by acclamation since there was no time to actually debate anything. So they got put in and passed without debate. The bill was passed Congress went home and they were signed into law I believe Dec 23rd.

Another little item they "slipped" into the same bill at the last minute that nobody knew about - a nice little raise for themselves. Ya just gotta love the way they do this stuff ;)

Well the most recent Constitutional amendment that ever passed states that their pay raise can't take effect until the next session of Congress... all of the House and 1/3 of the Senate is up for re-election this year... so take that into consideration when you go to the voting booth if you like lol...

Anyway last I'll say on politics not having to do with coins.

    2009 products

2009 mint products for proof set, silver proof set - it will be at least 21 coin. while that of unc set at 42 coin. why? increase 3 coin for dollar. 1 coin for statehood quarter and 3 pc for lincoln cent.

Er I don't know you figure 21 pieces for the proof set... I only came up with 18...

Cents: 4 (4 diff. reverses for Lincoln cent)
    Nickel: 1
    Dime: 1
Quarter: 6 (6 diff reverses for DC and territorial quarters)
    Half dollar: 1
Dollar: 5 (Sacagawea dollar and 4 diff. presidential dollars)

    Total: 18

The copper cent I'm guessing will likely be a separate mint product... but even if they put it in the proof set, that would still only get you to 19.

Legacy set would have to be in a HUGE box though lol if they throw a commem. or two in there, is that where you're getting 21 from?

And where are you getting the 3 additional dollars from? Something pass Congress I handn't heard about? As far as I know 2009 will just have the Sacagawea and 4 president dollars. (I think I heard they were proposing to do a series of new reverses on the Sacagawea... but still that would only be one a year, and it would be in place of the current reverse, not in addition to it, so still just one Sacagawea.)

Unc. set I only count at 36 coins... still a lot of course. Not sure if the copper cent will be included, or whether more than one mint will produce it, but at most 38.

Don't forget that next year there will be 4 different Sacagwea Golden Dollars.

Um where did you hear that? News to me. If anything's been officially announced (not just proposed or rumored), provide a link if you could.

I have found that beginning 2009 that the Sacagawea dollar will be redesigned, but if I'm reading it correctly it's only going to have one design per year, not four, and it's in palce of the normal Sacagawea dollar, not in addition to it. If you know of anything official that says otherwise, provide a link.

    how much?

the 21 pc silver proof set might cost us $75.00 more or less. because of silver price increases and an additional 7 proof coins. wow. before a silver proof set cost $21.00 initially. and a proof set cost $11.00 when i started to collect and buy at u.s. mint in 1981. of course i started this hobby long time ago. but that was in a foreign land.

It's all over the internet. It's even been on this site. It's in the legislation that Bush signed last week, so that they will make the 2008 Sacagawea only for collectors (not in circulation). In 2009, there will be 4 different Sacagaweas put into circulation.

Post a link. If it's all over the internet, you shouldn't have problem finding a link that says so.

    who is right?

troodon is right. it is only one sac dollar each year. so the 2009 silver proof and proof set should contained only 18 pieces. and the mint unc set with 36 pieces. so 2009 by far is the most coins contained in a set. by 2010, the silver proof and proof set should be lower down to 10 pieces and uncirculated set to 20 pieces.

    Annual Designs

This is what I found about the new designs.

    www.msnbc.msn.com/id/20590586/

    www.coinnews.net/2007/09/06/sacagawea-golden-dollar-scheduled-for-face-lift-3568/

At the bottom of the coin news website page there are other articles about the sacagawea dollar but they all said that each design will be released annually.
