I did the same thing... my kids already have a strong interest in coins, so maybe they won't want to sell them at all...

Nothing a detailed inventory and instructions can't do better. If I were to get all my coins graded, I'd have to spend over half a million dollars. And for what...so my family could make an extra quarter million dollars? Not smart.

What is lacking here are specific examples, just the extra cost that grading presents.

I will give categories of coins that will be worth more than the $20 (gold rush, etc) grading fee: $1 through $20 gold that will grade MS 62 or better, no question these will fetch more money with the big boys than raw coins.

Bust material that will grade XF or better, in this case economy is an option @ $15 per coin, 5 coin minimum.

Common Morgan, Peace dollars and Walkers that will grade MS 65 or better. No question the $15 spent will come back to you with interest.

Type silver coins in general that will be worth $125 or more once certified.

If you do not get the coins certified the buyer will make all kinds of arguments on his side and against the raw coins in most cases. Of course there are exceptions here; but I am talking about many of the buyers of coins, not those who are really helpful and honest.
