Some months at the local county flea market...no coins. (Nothing worth buying, anyway...) But some months...you find a coin you've been searching for for quite some time. No, it's not perfect...but it's highly, highly desirable. Much better than what I already have. Anyone want to guess why I paid $9 for this 1941 S Jefferson (and couldn't get the money out quick enough?)
You guys are way too sharp... Yes, this is an extremely nice Large S variety. I've got maybe a half roll to a roll of circulated examples, but this will be my first UNC example. Will get some better photos when I get home later.
Dang it!! I saw the Large S right away and then saw all you coin geeks beat me to it.. LOL Don't you have anything better to do that sit around on a coin forum all day?
On a side note, I have a '41-S Washington Quarter that just graded MS-65 and is the FS-503 Large S. I bought it raw at a show last spring and like you, could not get my money out fast enough.
As soon as I saw it was a 41 S and then the Large S... Steps? Steps? We don't need no stinking steps! (I mean, yeah, 6FS would have been the cherry on top...of the first cherry.)
In hand, I see what appears to be a shadow to the east - but it looks more like strike doubling. Very slight strike doubling. Looking at the VarietyVista page, the coin does match some of the die markers for RPM-001 (arc of die gouges through lower queue, appears to be a small die gouge under second A of AMERICA (but not under C as stated in the listing)) but I'm just not seeing anything typical of an RPM/OMM. Looks a bit like those Lincoln Memorial Cent plating "doubled die mirages."
There was a large S Variety on here a while back, that caused some confusion. I don't have the post, But from What @Lehigh96 says there is a triangle serif on the inside of the lower S. Along with the S being lower than the parallel of the east window
Thanks. That only confirms that this coin is NOT one of the previously discovered OMM. Definitely does not look like any of those in hand.
