    ... buy a competitors book ...

"... and any thing less ..."
    anything

    1.a. We all make misteaks.
1.b. I ignored a few mistakes not worth correcting, such as the multiple question marks and numeral 10 for "ten."

    2. If you bid on coins based on mintage figures, then knowing those numbers is your responsibility. I suggest that you might be happier with a Breen's Encyclopedia. In fact, the data upon which these books is built is also available. All you have to do is acquire the Mint Director's Reports. Then, based on that, you make internal corrections for end-of-year change over, etc., and you have your own, better numbers. In fact, you could sell your database of much better statistics. That is, assuming that your typesetting of number tables is better than the grammar of your casual writing.

    3. They cannot copy a competitor's book. You certainly must understand that, and are just being disingenuous.

Are you correcting my spelling??? No one pays me to spell correctly, if they did they would get accuracy. I dislike typing and do it as fast as I can and if I misspell some words I really dont care, tough beans.

Mike, Mike, Mike can't you just act like a normal fellow with information to share instead of shoving your views, credentials, and spelling skills down our throats?

Social skills or lack there of are great indicators of character...

Cool it guys...we don't pick on spelling here...I'm sure we could go around the whole forum and find a miss spelled word or two by each poster...that isn't something we do.

Just at RANDOM, I opened the Redbook to page 177, then I opened the Bluebook to the matching page on Walkers. If you look at the 1945P, the Redbook has the mintage at 31 million, the Bluebook has it at 3 million for the same coin. Whitman puts out both books and these figures are from the same year 2005. Say you were bidding on coin that is listed at 3 million mintage and you buy it based on that information, what you would think when you discovered that the real number was in fact 31 million?? You say the correct numbers are my responsibility, well I've never come across a book that says, Hey! we are THE source of accurate information. If a 28 million difference in numbers is O.K. with you, well so be it. Man I hate typing. Even tho ( though) it's minus 6 outside I have a date for a midnite (midnight) snowmobile ride and it's going to be a lot more fun than this conversation. GOOD NITE!

I didn't realize people were so passionate about Redbook! I just was wondering as my first post indicated.
Nothing I read has changed my mind though except posts by Rick and Rambozo.

A few inaccuracies would be acceptable in a first edition, but the Redbook is a piece of junk to contain this many mistakes after this many years of publication. Unfortunately, it's the industry standard which still makes it a "must have" volume. I guess selling books and making money is more important than actually producing a quality product.

I purchased a 1955 D/S jefferson nickel on ebay last week! from the photo I thought it was a OMM #11 but after recieving the coin it was not even a D/S variety it was the lighting in the photo! When I asked for a refund the reply was "I have been a coin collector for 40 years and there is only 1 D/S listed in the Redbook and no other varieties".
After citing the Jefferson Nickel RPM Book and Cherrypickers Guide she still did not want to issue a refund citing the Redbook again and stated she had two more of the same she was sending to PCGS for grading. Long story short she decided to issue me a refund, though she believes me to be wrong. Sent her the coin back with info on the D/S and suggested she send the coin for attribution prior to PCGS and will save her $$$ on TPG. Might have been a unreported D/D at best but most likely machine doubling or die damage! I don't expect everyone to have reference material on every specialty but you should know what you are selling!
My point being Redbook being used for something more than ulta basic info will get you in trouble. And as Lakebreeze pointed out, can you even trust the basic info they publish from year to year? Should a consumer have to verify want is published in this book, I think not!
