When I walk into a retail shop & purchase something that I have had the opportunity to touch & examine thoroughly , I do not feel obligated to go back to the store at a later date just to let them know that I was satisfied with my previous purchase. If I am truly impressed with that purchase I can provide the most meaningful feedback by purchasing from them again.
Many of us pay too much for everything in the USA as it is , why should I "thank" someone for gouging me as opposed to being gouged by someone else instead ?
When a retailer is willing to sell a fine product at less than 10% markup over cost , then that is cause for celebration and gratitude & to announce them to those you care about.

    my two cents

I'm only a "here and there" eBay seller but it took me forever to get the new minimum 10 different 5-star ratings (for it to show up) for selling because buyers would not leave feedback but half the time. I must have sold 20 items last year before it showed up because only 11 buyers left feedback. These weren't expensive items but the positive feedback plus the star rating would have been appreciated. I've been a registered eBay buyer/seller since May 1998 and I remember at one time I had nearly 95% of buyers leave feedback. Now it's like pulling teeth to get them to do it. My biggest sale in the past 2 months was with one buyer that bought two items. Never has left feedback even though we had good communications before the auctions ended.

I've only ever left 2 negative feedbacks. And they deserved it big time! One of them was a buyer a few years ago that was a deadbeat 0 feedback buyer. :Sigh: I noticed later that deadbeat ended up with a -2 feedback score.

On a good note, I did finally get my 500+ feedback eBay purple star last week. :hail:

No neutrals or negatives left for me in 12 years!!

I always leave positive feedback as a buyer, and usually receive nice feedback as a seller. The few times I don't receive feedback from a buyer doesn't bother me.

I have enough things in life to worry about, why someone chose not to leave me feedback is not one of them. Life is too short.

I would guess that most people who are not sellers are not that concerned about feedback. Like most people here, I have been on both sides of it. When I am selling I am logged on much more often an have plenty of reminders to leave feedback, especially when I am reviewing what has been paid for and what I need to ship. From time to time I will purchase an item or two and as long as it arrives timely I may not log back on for weeks. Because of this I may forget to leave feedback once in a while.

I'm not a ebay person at all. I would never buy anything on ebay due to some fantastic feedback since I know what my Son and all his friends do. When he was in college, everyone he knew did that same thing. I wouldn't be surprized that at all colleges kids send in great feedbacks for other kids.
I don't agree but you can't stop the entire world from cheating at anything and ebay feedbacks are a fantastic example of misunderstanding what is going on.

I have to agree. After you get so many positive feedbacks with varying descriptions, what's one more? Especially if you're mainly a buyer. They're mainly there to give people a rough idea of what kind of ebayer you are. Several hundred or more usually means somebody is pretty active. Less than a hundred I'd say would be classified as a pretty casual ebayer in general. Zero feedback really needs to be approached with caution. IMO, some people have fake account out there that they used to bid stuff up with.

I just had somebody bid up an auction with zero feedback, it ended, and I never heard from them again. As a seller, I am no longer allowed to leave negative feedback and ebay didn't suspend their account. So he's still out there. I just had to deal with the hassle of getting fees refunded and re-listing.

I think you're blowing it out of proportion. There may be a very small percentage of that going on, but there are many, many coin dealers selling thousands of dollars worth of coins on ebay every month. And when they're in slabs, there's pretty much no B.S. I think it's very obvious when you're dealing with a dealer. In fact, I'd say there are very few non-dealers on ebay. But you are right. You can't always go by feedback alone. There are many idiots who get ripped off and don't know the difference. And they leave wonderful, positive feedback. Even for obvious fakes! Feedback is only valuable to a point.

as a buyer more than a seller why dont most seller leave the same a mount of feed back as the buyer. I all ways leave feadback for every coin. But most sellers only leave one feed back for the intire buy. Put you off doing any ebaying. Dave

In regard to EBAY: No feedback might be good feedback.

THis idea was mentioned before and you could very well be correct. Based on what I have heard, maybe people do have "feelings" for others out there and don't leave feedback because they don't want to ruin their perfect rating. If someone is definitely thinking about leaving negative feedback, then I rather that they not leave it at all. Especially if I keep up with my end of the bargin and do everything that I am supposed to do. Its not my problem that people are idiots and cant read descriptions.....oh I guess in the ebay world I am responsible.

The ebay feedback system is a broken piece of crap and the more they work on it the worse it gets. Both sides should be able to tell the truth of how things went.
I know it's all water under the bridge but it's now impossible to spot a bad buyer.
I no longer care if others give feedback, it's just not important to me.

As far as insurance and paperwork, save it for 7 years. If you ever have to deal with the IRS on ebay sales you will need it. If you can't prove your cost basis you have a real problem.

For me as a seller, asking for positive feedback if all is well is for the point of deleting that sale from my screen and knowing it reached finality. At the point that a buyer leaves positive feed back, they can no longer open a case against you to try and take back the money from that sale, other wise they have 45 days to file. I'm not saying that I do worry about returns, but I am not a big time seller, so I enjoy spending what I earn pretty fast and do not feel it is safe to spend the money until the whole sale is finale, just my way of things!

Frankly Joe, given the stand up guy that you are, and the wonderful auctions that you have run (I've Bid) I can't see how someone could not give you less than stellar feedback, not to mention, no feedback. All I can say is that there are ingenuous, unthinking, forgetful, ill mannered, "rubes" out there.....

I am not sure what you are saying. I am not a shop, I am just a collector.

I have been selling on e bay since 2003, as for feed back it seems to me it is the Royal Pain in the ( ! )"s are the worst to leaving feed back they want service but don't give a rat's hooha about you. as far as the statement no feed back is good feed back I do agree. I also agree the feed back system is broken! In my business we say all the time if it ain't broke don't fix it....as for seller being handed their ( ! )'s over insurance and shipping and feed back and the fee's you pay e bay is going down hill faster and faster! Every neg I have received was due to a stupid person who can't read! I listed a enamelled coin as a coin it was at one time a pin but was not listed as jewery. The buyer bid it over 25 bids and won then left a neg. due to the fact that the pin did not function! DUH it was a coin not a pin. I have a problem with payments.. I just sold a few gold coins ..I stated that payment was due within 24 hours after close...or the auction was null & void. The buyer did everything to push my buttons over the payment. They refused to cancel the auction and I was forced to push for the money. When I make a purchase I have cash/ payment in hand and pay right of way....not 48 to 72 hours after the fact. Another pet peeve is that I have set up my auctions people with out a feed back history are not allowed to bid. Unfair you say maybe so but have had way too many bidders with no or low feed back stiff me! I buy & sell as a hobby and to support my hobby of collecting. It's about business not play when you buy from me you are imformed over every step of the process tracking #'s shipping date and follow up to make sure you get what you paid for. E bay has even e mailed me about making the payment due at the end of the auction manatory as I have had so many non payers! Lastly the fee's big deal I listed 5 items @ $4.30 the fee's cost me over $112.00 plus Pay Pal fee's...pretty sad . And to think about all the money e bay has made since I started writting this reply........every second of the day e bay is laughing all the way to the bank! Us sellers are eating losses due to a system that has let us down. our ( ! )'s are hanging out.... I report a scammer at least once a month I have reported bad sellers and bad buyers and you never get any reply as to what e bay has done to fix a scammer or crook. and my final word is on the fact e bay protects scammers... yes I had to take one seller to the fed. gov. web site over his rip off auctions and the way he skirted the rules e bay did nothing and in fact he's still selling! Sad very sad ....:rolling::hammer:
