I didn't really expect you to agree with my "thinking" so I'm glad you didn't disappoint. I don't mind being the poster child for what's wrong with today's society in the least. Like I said, it's not lazyness, it's just that I don't care.

When I buy groceries do I say thanks to the cashier for the speedy service and getting my bill correct? no. Do I thank the mailman for getting my mail into the correct slot at the post office? no. Do I thank the cook for getting my hamburger to the correct degree of medium rare? no.

They are just doing their job and only their job. I don't see the need to reinforce competent behavior.

    Krispy,

I do sell on ebay as well and it is nice to get feedback but it's ok if someone decides not to. It's not required or expected but it is nice when it happens.

Posting feedback on ebay is not just rewarding competent behavior on the sellers part, its also letting me, the buyer, know that this seller is trustworthy and I can expect to get the item I bought and it will arrive in as it was described. If a buyer does not leave me feed back I send them one email asking if they will, because I always send feedback to the buyers. Its only right in letting other potential buyers know your experience with that seller.

I find people not leaving feedback annoying also, Ebay is about feedback I purchase and sell stuff on Ebay and the feedback is what guides me to see if they are a good seller/buyer.

Really, really true. My son has friends send in fantastic feed backs on his stuff all the time. If you have enough people to do that, and few real people give you a poor or bad one, starts to make little difference.

Yes, there certainly is a balance between number of positive to negatives, and many people, buyer and seller alike, steer away from leaving negatives at all, but why does your son feel the need to enlist friends to leave fantastic feedback? is that not deceitful and do you condone this?

I used to leave feedback for sellers on eBay, but I very rarely do any longer. Why? There's no incentive for me to do so.

Because I'm a buyer, the seller cannot leave me negative feedback (This is, incidentally, one of the reasons I quit selling on eBay.) So, why should I leave positive feedback? I get nothing out of it.

There are only 2 instances where I leave feedback currently:

    1) The seller has provided me with extraordinary customer service. Perhaps they made a minor error in my order, and made up for it quickly and without hassle, for example.

    or

    2) The seller ticked me off. They took too long to ship. They charged me for priority shipping and instead sent first-class. In this case, I leave very low numbers for feedback, knowing that they will affect the seller's DSRs (Detailed Seller Ratings, I believe), and make their selling experience more difficult. Is this nice? No. But I always provide good customer service, and make amends when I fail, and I feel others should be held to that standard, so feedback is how I accomplish that goal.

In my opinion sellers leave feedback more often then buyers. Many ebayers, myself included, leave feedback for transactions only a few times a month. Some people are very concerned about how many feedbacks they have on ebay, if you are trying to gather more feedbacks to your score a good option is to go buy a bunch of stuff at a few bucks each.

OK. Well, you guilted me into going back and leaving feedback. I hope I wasn't one of the "morons" you were waiting for. And all it really did was prompt me to go back and leave "neutral" feedback.

I always post feedback on transactions I'm happy with. I don't usually leave feedback if I'm not too happy with the purchase. First, I don't want to slam anyone, and second, I usually take part responsibility for the unhappy transaction. I feel I should have not trusted the picture or description to be a true representation of the product I ended up with, and that maybe some "due diligence" on my part would have avoided the transaction.

I applaud you for going back and leaving feedback. I don't think that anyone should have to leave positive feedback if the experience was nothing less than positive. But I also don't think that anyone should leave negative or neutral feedback because you read the description wrong or didn't pay attention to something. Thats not the sellers problem. Not saying that is what happened to you, but just saying none the less. There are those people out there that do blame everyone for their misfortune or rather incompetence to do their part of the work.

And, no you were not one of the people who needed to leave me feedback. ;)

Very interesting opinions on feedback. In all honesty I never thought about how important feedback is to sellers. I have always done my best to leave it as quick as possible. I will admit at least once I forgot about it for about a week. Now I have never been a dramatic person in my feedback - usually it just says something like Good Transaction and/or nice coin. I just can't get into all those A+'s and other things people say.

I'll almost always leave feedback-one way or another - based on my buying/selling experience. When a person doesn't leave any feedback I send the a nice and brief email saying "positive feedback is always returned". I usually get the + feedback. If the sale was negative I'll decide how bad it really was and give a Neutral or Negative feedback only if warranted. Sometimes when it isn't a positive situation I'll just let it go without any feedback.

I will not leave feedback for a seller when ...

If the seller was a little slow in shipping an item due to in-climate weather and if the item received was advertised in a somewhat unknown condition & once said item was received & examined it was unremarkable , well I have to weigh multiple factors before considering leaving feedback , because anything less than 5 stars in any category can hurt the seller's rep & that is not my intention. Then again , I can not , in good conscience , give them 5 stars for less than 5 star service in a particular category.

It is a tough place for a buyer to be , because they have made feedback so vital to the success of sellers.

I have become frustrated with the situation and have begun relying on a saying my Dad used to say:

If you can't say something nice , then don't say anything !

I'm always glad to leave great feedback when the transaction went well and I'm happy.

A month ago, I was selling a few very minor things just to move them and I forgot to leave feedback for one of the guys. I don't know how. It could be that their link is not as obvious as it used to be.

I have left feedback hundreds of times and I still have to make a conscious effort to look around for the the feedback link now, then get re-directed and find the next link, then you're there. It used to be easier, like a big radio button on the auction page. I'd blame the change, personally.

Anyway, the guy asked if I would leave him a positive and I went ahead and did it right then.

Maybe the seller's rep needs to be hurt!!! This is a bad philosophy to have. The star ratings are completely anonymous and one rating barely budges them. Almost nobody has a full 5 stars in every category anyway. I give people 2 to 3 stars over shipping all the time. It's no big deal.

The big deal is the feedback itself. Since 2000, I've had to leave 2 negatives a couple neutrals, one of which had to be replied to severely and should have been another negative. All in all, that's not bad for a 10 year span.

You have to realize that there are many terrible, lying, misrepresenting, lazy, con-artist sellers out there that other people deserve to be warned about if there's trouble. Some will be legit for 9 auctions and the 10th one's a scam!
If all the rotten sellers only get positive feedbacks from people afraid to offend someone, than they may as well throw the whole system away. I reward the good, speak highly of people when deserved and hammer the bad.

The way they have it setup is anything less than 5 stars in all categories actually lowers the sellers rep.
I have left scathing feedback in the past while at the same time giving them 5 stars in all categories so that it had a chance to be viewed in their positive feedback list, but the seller just makes the item information private so nobody can see the details.
So if the transaction was flawless all the way around I go out of my way to let the seller and the public know, but if it was lacking in any area , I will leave no feedback.

Couldn't agree more, On the shipping I am more critial with the stars. Leave honest feedback and let the cards fall where they may. I have like 154 feedbacks and all Good, These power sellers that have 3000 or more and have a few bad feedbacks is OK, There is always someone that thinks they are getting srcewed or something gets damaged in the mail. I normally ship USPS first class with Delivery Conf. unless it's a high dollar amount. If it is breakable I always send it UPS they pay on claims with no problems.

I sold a Morgan dollar slabbed by ANACS. I got a good bid and maybe more than it was worth. But that is not my fault my description was completely honest. But guess what NO FEEDBACK from the guy. I know he felt like he overpaid so he took it out on me by withholding feedback.
