Why does some of my wheat pennies weigh zink and copper

    And it's my older ones like 1918 1919 1920 1929 they all weigh 2.5 and 3.1 I have more too.

    I'll guess that the early dates are just well worn.

    I re did it my scale was lying to me they all weigh 3.1

    I think ladies scales are trained to lie..... I am sorry, Shrews. That was bad and I just couldn't help myselfo_O:D.....

    not usual I have 1000's of wheats in not a very worn condition at all that all weigh either over or under

    Always recalibrate your scale even if you think it doesn't need it, and make sure to put the coins in the same place in the middle.

    I use a Triple beam dial-a-gram that everytime i slap on calibration weights it is always correct. I then can calibrate my digitals from those results as to the true weight of the cal. weights. US 1$ bill is approximately 1 gram. if you don't have weights(good 'nuff for govt. work). I check with 1g, 5g. 10g, 100 then 500g.weights. A newly minted LWC weighed 3.11 as to spec. Once circulated all bets are off.
