Grading is not only about counting hits. Can you really tell much about strike quality, luster, surface condition (PL?) or eye appeal from a single, medium quality picture? if you really want to make a point, you‘d have to submit a number of ANACS and NGC Morgan dollars (same year/mint and grade!) to PCGS and share the results. If ANACS coins cross at the same or higher grade while most NGC coins are downgraded, you could get my attention. But even then one could argue the coins were intentionally selected to make one of the companies look bad…
No. It was from a small sample of about 20 slabs. But there are plenty of videos out there in the wild that will support my argument. Crack outs that graded as high and sometimes higher. Some people like to prove their point rather than the feasibility of what they are doing. lol
Every grading company has gone through periods of loosening and tightening. Some more noticably than others. ANACS got loose in the blue slabs and hurt themselves. I think ANACS is currently grading Morgan's about as strictly as anyone, ( some other series maybe not so much.)
I don't agree with the OPs conclusions based on the pictured dollars. First, I buy the coin and not the holder - I have some of all of them. In those coins pictured, the hits on the 84 do not seem to be deep (scuffs) and the fields are clean. Sorry to say, but based on the images alone, it is a higher grade coin than the 82. In hand it may be different.
