Even with somewhat low numbers, I think the kicker is that probably 95% of these coins will remain uncirculated so there will always be an ample supply. I think they are overpriced from the mint.
What's your problem? Did I cause you offense somehow? This statement of yours obviously is very sarcastic and negative towards me. I made that post because I'm 100% confident there are people smarter then me on this forum who know the answer to the question, but none had confidentially answered yet and the thread as about to be pushed off the first page of the forum. I can see how you could take from my statement that "I know the answer and am just waiting for you idiots to figure it out" but doing that requires you to make a lot of negative assumptions about me and my attitude towards everyone else here, which as far as I know are unfounded.
Not here to stick up for Leadfoot on this one but you know the last paragraph of this post isn't exactly flattering to anyone if they read it wrong. "just waiting for you idiots to figure it out"? You asked for opinions and got many. Some are more blunt than others. I agreed with Treashunt from the start. People are just stupid at times. Maybe we're right and maybe we're wrong but they are opinions. You can chop this one up all day but I feel the bottom line is the VAST majority of these coins will remain BU forever. Happened with a lot of Morgans actually. So maybe in 100 years you'll get $20 for a BU 2006 Sac but what will $20 be worth then? No one has a crystal ball or all of the knowledge (although many feel they do). For my $180 I'd settle for "proven" coins. Once again just my opinion. clembo
it says "try going to a bank and ask for a roll of golden dollars" most banks probaly have a couple rolls all the time on hand that they are willing to sell to you for $25.
The entire sentance "I know the answer and am just waiting for you idiots to figure it out" is sarcastic and I wrote it to show a point. I tried to make it sound bad enough that it would have been obviously sarcastic. I guess it wasn't insulting enough.
jimmyrules712, I read the sentence and understood it actually. No, I was not offended in any way either. My point was that someone COULD take that offensively. It happens and has happened to me. Ahhh... the beauty of language and interpretation of same. No hard feelings I hope. Now I have to ask you - after having read all of the posts where are you leaning on this one? I'm sticking to my guns as it were.
I have no problem, and you didn't offend me at all. :thumb: I just wanted to know the answer, if you knew (which seemed to be a reasonable, if incorrect, assumption given the wording of your post), and I aped your sarcastic tone. I apologize if you read my response otherwise, as that was not my intent...Mike
I am going to be very polite here and ask some simple questions about SACs. There will be certain replies from CERTAIN forum members saying to junk them, spend the, they're worthless. In THIS PARTICULAR CASE, someone was asking why they were selling for so much money on E-bay and he was called STUPID or a DUMMY. Treashunt can tell us why we were called dummies (and Treashunt indirectly called ME a DUMMY as well). WHAT IS HIS PROBLEM? Apparently, you can't ask questions about SACS because it's not a Bust Half Dollar or a 3 Cent Silver dime. It's just not cool. It has to be something that the "cool" members of this board would look for at a coin show. SAC's just get blasted. But, Oh, can I see another scan of a DMPL Morgan - PLEASE>>>>>>>>!!!!!!
I don't want to speak for Treashunt, but the way I read his response he was calling the people who were bidding on these coins at this level to be stupid and dumb, and he was not making a blanket statment talking about collectors of SACs. At least that's how I read it.... Respectfully...Mike
Even if E-bay bidders seem to be STUPID or DUMB, who the HECK is Treashunt to determine that? Does he REALLY know what the value of SACS are going to be in 10 years? 20 years? So on and so forth. My advice to Treashunt, you should never use the term DUMMY unless it's really clear. I've read a zillion of your posts and believe what you say (more or less) except for the crap about SACs. Why don't you like SAC's?????
Pocket change: I was NOT calling you a dummy. I was referring to the fact that people were spending $180 for a roll of conis that they could still get for $3.595 + shipping from the mint. If that isn't silly, then what is? I am sorry that you took offense, but it was nothing personal. As I can see, there has been no rational explaination for the selling price from anyone.
It isn't the question about the Sac's that got a reaction, it was the amazing selling price. However, I have to admit, I am jealous that I didn't get a price like that, and I won't since I don't own any of them.
Apparently Sacs are a very sensitive and controversial subject judging by where this thread has been going. Lets either turn back to a neutral subject or leave this thread alone.
Sacs are a nice series, I like them, but in my personal opinion, they get too much hype. The insanley high mintages kind of keep them from jumping in value any time soon IMO. Personally, I prefer the proofs, some gorgeuos coins. But I'm not going to get a 01 S for $80 when I can get some other coins that I would prefer to have, and have a better rate in growing in value. I think the 01 S Sac is vastly over rated, and soon it is going to come down in price IMO. And when that happens, I'll pick myself up one or two. Till then, I'm going to wait. Phoenix
Pocket change: The reason that I do not prefer the Saci's is because the public really believes that they have gold in them. [Remember the mint's silly (okay, I did not say stupid) promotion about 'Golden Dollars"?] Also, sure, I have a couple of them, but like many products produced by the US mint I, personally, feel that they (the mint) are ripping off collectors. Why else produce $20 rolls of coins and sell them for $39.95, or what ever. The mint has changed they system into a commodity producing coins for collectors and overcharging. Example: the prices that they get for rolls the Jefferson Nickels from the last two years. Why should they charge any more than face, plus possibly a little for shipping? They are making a heafty profit on the little guy. That said, "De Gustibus Non Est Disputandum." Translation varies from: There is no accounting for taste. to: There is something for everyone. I agree that just because I collect Barber dimes, quarters and half dollars (primarily) that not everyone should collect them. Heck, then I wouldn't be able to buy them anymore, and I'd be forced to stop. (No fun in that). But-----------The original question for this thread: was why did the coins sell for so much? Again, please, this time you tell me: Why pay so much money when they were still available from the mint for far less money? THAT is what I was talking about. NOT that the Saci collectors are dumb. NOT that anyone who disagrees with me is dumb. Heck I can be pretty dumb at times. But, the question stands: Why did they pay so much?
[sarcasm] Boy oh boy, all this arguing over modern trash? [/sarcasm] LOL, obviously the bidders care more about the packaging than the coins.
