Why did I get this 1868 Indian so cheap?

Greysheet bid and ask is $29-32, so a good expected retail value is about $35-36 (about 10% over ask). This coin is a solid G-4 all day long.

I say it was a good deal.

W/a mintage over 10 million, and considering the condition, I'm surprised it sold for over $7.00

I will buy all of yours for $7.00 each. A 10 million mintages for Indian Cents isn't quite that much, considering how much they circulated.

Lately I've been working on less popular sets, and slightly lower grades.
So to stretch my collecting dollars I've been using Greysheet Bid + 20%, including S&H.
Even bidding that low I'm winning about 1 out of 2 to 1 out of 3 bids.
Looks like I can build up most of a set rather quickly. I don't think I can get away with bidding like that on the keys and semi-keys.

With IHC's I think you can if you are patient on the semi-keys. The keys are different - everyone seems to go bonkers over those.

IMO, IHC's are not one of the less popular sets.
I think there's a lot of activity there, possibly a spill-over from the Lincolns.
I'm working on the early commemoratives.
They seem quiet, especially in the XF/MS-62 range.

As for my IHC's, besides the 3 in my typeset, I've got 2 of the semi-keys, 1908-S and 1909-S.
I'm nosing around for an 1877.
    Maybe in Baltimore next weekend.
