I made this collage by cutting out coin faces from PCGS TrueView photos, then resizing to the correct aspect ratio, then overlaying on an old American Flag and the Declaration of Independence. Kind of a cool piece of American for toned coin lovers.
It’s a matter of individual taste. I myself prefer gem brilliant white coins. Not much of a toner fan.
I am not a fan of toned gold, but I can respect that you like it. I mostly like toned silver. That is an amazing collection not doubt.
I tend to avoid toned coins, but occasionally one comes along that just works for both filling a space in a collection with a certain amount of added aesthetic appeal. I found this one at a local coin show a few years ago and grabbed it the moment I saw it. After the purchase, the dealer said "well, that one lasted less than an hour."
Actually toned coins are not. As a bourse room dealer since 1990 most seem to prefer brilliant coins with super luster. There are big gun dealers who promote toned material.
This is at least the second time someone in this thread has mentioned "Big Gun Dealers" along with toned coins. IMHO, the preferences of BIG GUN DEALERS and the amount of influence they have on the coin market amounts to This !!
Trying to blame dealers for the taste of the market is just silly. Some people prefer blast white, others like toned and others like both. The ones that liked toned are willing to pay huge premiums for the right looks
Exactly my sentiment. I am always gravitated toward blast white. Occasionally one will come along that.... Well, just has that certain something. Last week @Paddy54 posted a seated dime that was dark toned and for whatever reason, it just took my breath away. Usually a coin like that would turn me off.
Randy was it the redish obv. One? Or the top one? Randy should i ever find another of the same die marriage we can talk...but this is a rarer die marriage and yeah she is nice
Collectors have their personal preferences. This is something to think about that I realized long ago... When you buy a toned coin there will be more chances to sell it. That's because the toner guys will want it and the guys who cannot wait to dip it will also.
