Why are some of the 2000 pennies silver around the edge of coins?

    Hello, just curious why some of the 2000 pennies are sliver looking around the edge of the pennies and others are not?

    Zincolns are zinc with a very thin pure copper shield around them as zinc can be toxic if ingested, so you are seeing the core where it has worn away for various reasons. Like the candy shell aound the chocolate M&M.

    It looks like the copper plating was removed by grinding/polishing. It's post mint damage
