Why are fakes being sold for so much?

Hopefully, you've changed your mind about the "advanced" numismatists who collect the interesting and often deceptive counterfeits that are out there BOTH very old and more modern. Many of the best-made fakes go through multiple auctions or are slabbed as genuine be the TPGS. After viewing the auction, my guess is that three "advanced" Large cent collectors wanted this one.
