I have one currently on way from Downies Australian Auction! Its a very special coin ex: Norweb Collection.
I am waiting for 3 coins at the moment: a Hadrian denarius, A Titus denarius, and an Egyptian Tetradrachm of Vespasian.
I'm waiting on an RR bronze uncia and a silver victoriatus and both are coming from Germany and seemingly stuck in customs in NYC for the past few days. Fingers crossed they'll make it through with no problems. I'm also waiting on a copy of Vecchi sale 6 which sounds like it had an excellent run of RR bronzes so I've been watching for it for a while. Happy to finally be able to add it to the library.
Vecchi had some good sales. Sale #6 has 26+ plates off RR goodness, more than half are probably bronze.
Two British florins from different sellers was suppose to be here last thursday, still not here. No tracking changes since last tuesday either.
Woo hoo! I just ordered a coin that I have been wanting for two years! I'm not going to mention what it is until it comes in. But, I'm very excited about it. Also, my bro has been patiently waiting a month for this one: He's getting a bit nervous. It comes from Forvm and their coins have always come within 2 weeks at the most. Hopefully it comes in soon. Erin
Waiting on one from Vauctions and four from Naville. The Vauctions one has been in the post for about a month, the Naville one just a couple of days. Hopefully, both packets will appear next week! ATB, Aidan.
Went to a coin show today and picked up 11 coins, from a Phillip with Tyche reverse to a Thrace Lampsakos Lysimachos tet, a Rape of Sabine denarius to a sweet 32 g. Ptolemy/Cleopatra. I peeled off all the price stickers from the ones that had them before showing to my wife. I don't think she understands yet the whole concept of spending money to get other money. Waiting for anything in the mail is nerve-racking, let alone when it is a desired coin! I'm much more into instant gratification. Is the motto around here, "Pix or it didn't happen?" Unfortunately we don't all have the pro setups that some of you seem to have to photograph your treasures.
I'm waiting for 5 English hammered pennies from Halls Hammered Coins. They are a Henry II, 2 Johns and 2 Edward I. One of the John pennies is from the more scarce Chichester mint. All are nice looking coins and they just left San Francisco on Friday. Maybe I'll have them in hand Monday or Tuesday.
We study antiquity which lasted a very long time. 40 years was long then, but short in our modern imagination. Consider our thoughts about debasement, which is the ancient version of inflation. From 55% silver to 45% silver (if the weight stayed the same) in 40 years would correspond to the average inflation rate x that solves 55 = 45(1+x)^40. x = .0050, 1/2% per year. Over that time, inflation was about 1/2% per year! There were times when inflation was serious factor in antiquity, but, in spite of what you have heard, the mid third-century was not that bad.
