Put your anwser in the survey and tell why you made your choice

I just stared and feel VERY late to the game. Picked up a couple for a ridiculous sum of money but did come home happy thinking two words series Key! I just can't find any of these coins around. They are seeming to be drying up. Have these reached a top? Love to hear your experiences and reasons for collecting these goins.

You can still pick up the '08W silver eagle (albeit, a trifle pricey) at the US Mint in the form of the "2008 uncirculated Dollars" set.....

I just love silver eagles. Big, heavy, beautiful coins. Can't have too many......:smile

I got a tip a few months back and was lucky enough to pick up a few of these before prices went completely crazy. I would like to collect the Buffalo's but prices were already to high for my taste, plus it seems that the buffalo's peaked a good bit before the Uncirculated Eagles. I got a $5 Buff MS70 "first year of release" for $460 at a local show. yikes!
I was fortunate enough to pick up individual $5 and $10 uncirculated eagles for $600 and then I found a set on Ebay and pushed myself and paid $2855 for it. Overall I am very happy with my investments and believe that the 08 uncirculated set will stand the test of time as it has 3/4 of the lowest mintages of the entire Gold Eagle series. With the Buffalos being a one year only release I think they will always hold their value well but in the long run the gold eagles are where it's at!

Bottom line is more demand - lot's of folks have been collecting gold eagles for years and I feel damn good about the fact that I am holding onto 2 of the key date with only 9883(?) of them out there!

  5. I think I may have purchased one of the last available 2008W $10 AGE from the Mint in early 2009 because it went off sale just minutes after I ordered it. It took over 2 months for it to arrive but the coin is absolutely spectacular even under a 10X loupe. Although I like the AGB design, this lowest mintage AGE beauty will always be one of my favorites. TC

'08 will prove to be an interesting year, in the years to come. With the Mint going back and forth in '07 & '08, I wish I would have picked up a set of AGEs (both proof & UNC) to match the buffs.

For now, I'll just have to be happy with the buffs

    Some questions regarding these coins

    1) To what degree do you beleive these coins will be influenced by the POG?

    2) Do you think these coins are in fact "Drying up" and being held onto exclusively by collectors?

I'm looking on ebay and see one 2008 proof going for 5,000 with 30 mins left:rolling::bigeyes::confused:

I recently saw a proof set sell for 10,000 clean!

    Comments appreciated.

oh yes, and do you beleive these coins still have room to out-perform bullion prices even if the POG rises?

The '08-W buffs at this point have broken free not only from the POG but the Mint's pricing as well.

Concerning '08-W buffs, at mintages under 20k (across each weights) these will be difficult to find

Pretty much anything '08 (collector PMs) is a good bet.
Watching the buffs make their run been a joy:D

2006-2009 will be a hard period to beat when it comes to return on investments.

Why do the proof buffalo sets go for so much more when the Burnished set is the one with series key's and lowest mintages? Why does the Eagle proof set less than the eagle burnished set?
