Someone cleaned out a fountain and was slick passing on the trashed coins. There is actually a guy who's business is cleaning coins from wishing wells and fountains.
He takes a cut of the total ,for his service. He actually uses a rock tumbler, and a cement mixer to mix the coins and his cleaning solution he uses...most probably fine sand and an a cleaner .
Bank can and will reject any coins that aren't cleaned from vending,or wishing wells.

i use a rock(coin) tumbler for those nasty coins. 1-2 hours is all it takes to make them pretty again. Some have so much crud on them, it's hard to tell the front to back from those Zincolns. Snowman
