    Send them to NGC

I can't even get to see any of these. The banks refuse to carry them in NY.

Hey, strike while the iron's hot! If the bidding closes like it is there are going to be 21 unhappy bidders out there in about 4 hours looking to get their paws on another one of these "rare error" specimens... :D

I have a question.....not that I am going to do this, but can someone with a sander file off the lettering on the side....buff it and create an "error"coin. Is sounds easy enough to do?

It is funny you say that i just saw one on e-bay that looked like it was sanded. Also I only found one at 595.00 and that looked like a setup all the others are under 50.00 that I saw. One person selling had a 98% sell rate

    Do not get baited LOL

I assure you, mine are fine. They came straight from rolls from the bank.....

Better hurry it appears there are a lot of them showing up on ebay and the prices are no where near $600.00

I am so confused. Isn't rarity the reason coins are priced so high? Apparently, there are MANY of these error coins, so the rarity level is not there. I do not see why someone would spend hundreds of dollars on a coin that you can most likely find in a bank roll.

I really don't think that these are going to be common at all, there would be a lot more on ebay. Also, all the listings are from Florida, so I think it is a small batch in a limited area. Time will tell. There may just be a hundred or so for all we know. if that is the case, they will be worth more than $600 bucks each.

I agree with Philly Dog, Treashunt, this very well could have been a setup. All it'd take is a couple or three bidders stooging for the seller.

Yes, I went to a coins store today, and the owner made a few calls and said there was a small hoard in Jacksonville, FL (where I live) and one in Chicago.

Are these a recognized find yet?

I have looked through a few coin mags and this is not on any of the top pages yet. I have seen many error coins about upside down lettering. And I feel that these sellers are just ripping people. Now the missing lettering seem legit! have we got a bonified ruling on this? I know that there is still some arguments about the upper and lower ear coins. But I do see them in my computer upgrades that come through. :D Just wondering thats all dont shoot me. :D

These coins are new and still being minted we have no idea how common of a problem this is or will be for the mint since this is there first incused edge. The mint may still be producing this 'error' or may have corrected the problem. How soon we will know is to be determined.
I refused to pay $30 or $40 for a nickel punched with a scatched die (Speared bison) thinking it was nothing (actually still don't understand the hype) and remember paying $75. in 1995 for a 1995 ddo cent in MS65 I'd be lucky to get that much for it today becuase it turned out to be fairly common.
So it's basically a crap shoot at this point. Are the ones paying $100's now going to be telling others years from now "I can't believe I only paid $200, $300 or more when there worth $1000.00's" or "I can't believe I paid $100's when there only worth a small premium."
I might think of picking one up if I can get one for under $50.00 at this point, but would still be weary I guess.
