This issue is not limited to coins. In Medicine the best EKG book to read to learn how to read EKGs was written by Dale Dubin. Like breen also convicted of child molestation. Of course not defending anything about child molestation nothing the man did makes the book any less spectacular for learning how to read an ekg. You don’t need to worship the guy you don’t need to like the guy you don’t even need to tolerate his presence but his book is still the best

Is it really worth letting someone die because you make a mistake reading an EKG when you would’ve caught it if you read his book?

Dale Dubin was arrested in 1986, I really hope if you're in the medical field you aren't relaying on books that are decades old

He was also arrested for pornography and drugs not rape/molestation.

Well, Breen left a twisted mark, not just in the Nuismatics community, but also in the Sci-Fi Community. They are very vocal about it and also struggle with the legacy

As far as I can see, as long as the text is valuable and without replacement, I don't see why it should not be used. It might be valid, however, to change the reference of the catalogues entries from "Breen numbers" to another nomenclature, as it might be appropriate to remove the honor from him. It might also be appropriate to remove the copyright of the work, or for team of experts to rewrite it and add corrections to it.

There is a problem with that, though. We learn nothing and we protect no one by a blanket removal of Walter Breen from numismatics and US history. What he had done, had evidently gone on for decades and he had many enablers. It is an important case study of how things can go wrong.

My father has a copy of Mein Kompf in the house and he had read it and studied it. Historically, he felt it was important to understand the work and how it helped launch the infamous genocide and political career of Hitler. As upsetting such works are, there are lessons to be learned, and by studying the life of Walter Breen, there is likewise lessons to be learns, as much as there is from studying Jack the Ripper, or
Elizabeth Báthory or Genghis Khan. It is not possible for Breen to escape the legacy he made. I believe that a confident and secure society can handle such a legacy and learn from it. Breen was not alone in the guilt of his crimes. He had many enablers.

First, try to remain on the topic. Secondly, after reading your posts belittling the victims of coin theft and the institutional root for the rampant trade in stolen coins that continues to plague us, I doubt that you can bring much light to the topic as complex as Walter Breen. You need to have a centered morality in order to bring any well thought out position with regard to a pedophile who wrote a Numismatic classic. This is a hot button issue that takes empathy to write about. That is not an area of expertise that you have shown a strong understanding of. I take your quote - roughly - "speaking bad of the dead has caused a need to create a defense" as a slip of the tongue, but it is remarkably consistent with you overall lack of sensitivity to crime victims.

I for one will skip your multimedia dissertation (not so much because you constantly troll me, and make little contribution other than complaining, as much as I find that you're remarkable unsuitable for such an assessment given the reasons I put forth). But it will be good for everyone else to see you make a contribution besides trolling....any contribution at all.
