My brother was building the airport in Tehran a few years before the Shah fell from power in 1979. He brought home a handful of coins which have sat in a box of my mothers things all these years. I was going to toss them, but my eleven year old grandson is starting to play golf and I thought I'd pick one as a 'marker' when he needed to move a ball from the green. Anyway, I've no idea of the denomination or of the date; if it's printed, it's in Iranian. I'm hoping someone will know something about Iranian coins and can tell me about it.
It's silver, about 1 1/4'' diam. on one side is the profile of Mohammad Reza Shah Pahlavi. Below him looks to be the letters i r o r, but the 'o' is more of a triangle and above him are a row of characters. On the other side going up from center bottom is a wreath of leaves. A small crown is center top, with a lion, sword raised in the right paw, with an fierce look on its face, and what might be a sun rising behind the lion. Sorry I can't post a pic.
Thanks in advance for you help.
