I would also like to post my name here, if any CT member sells on ebay, I would rather deal with them than from the other ebay people. Just send me a PM with your seller ID.
Well so far nobody has mentioned the seller who puts stickers on the 2X2 holders. You must have seen the "costs as much as 2 pizzas". While the writing and stickers are a distraction, I've bought a few good deals.
Well, he's using those as key words, which raises his chances of having his auctions seen by more people. Marketing 101. (But then again, marketing 101 can be a turn off if it's blatantly false advertising). As a seller, I want EVERYONE to see my eBay items More views=more bids. I don't want to be a liar, which is why all my keywords are like "rare coin old money estate lot collection antique nice grade, etc, etc." Hopefully those are harmless search words that create a lot of hits for me.
I would also gladly buy from a CT member over a random Ebayer, as while I don't post much, I peruse/browse a ton. Please feel free to PM me any names, as well.
Awesome thread! Anyone else who hasn't been mentioned if you'd like to send me a PM and give me your username ill be sure to add you.
Not to go personal or negative here, but I kind of wish you wouldn't do that. As a buyer, I want to see auctions that actually match my search terms. I frequently search for the word "lot", doing a kind of cherry-picking -- looking for lots that contain high-value coins not explicitly mentioned in the description. If your single coins show up in my search results because they all include the keyword "lot", you're not putting your auctions in a good light. At best, I'll skip past your coins, grumbling about people who think "one" is a "lot"; at worst, if I'm already in a bad mood, I might report a couple of the auctions for "search and browse manipulation". Putting in unrelated keywords to drive searchers to your auctions IS against eBay policy. Again, nothing personal against you or your auctions. It's not like you're in danger of "losing me as a customer" anyhow; your stuff is in an area of specialization that I haven't approached yet, and I generally can't set my sights on anything quite that nice yet. But please do be considerate of those of us who aren't (yet) your customers.
No pointing a finger here, but a few years back when I was just really getting into Morgans via eBay, I quickly made the discovery that they can readily be slabbed in holders labeled in a manner to closely resemble NGC packaging, but in actuality are no such thing -and of course, the "certification" is wildly inflated in terms of grading. I don't know if that questionable practice has been curtailed or not.
So "lot" is the only one of my search words you have issue with? I always thought I was selling "single lots". If it bothers you that much I'll start removing that word. Don't want you to report me, especially since this is my only source of income.
I do agree that 'lot' for one coin is a bit of an irritant, though I've never reported anyone. Does anyone have any recommendations for a seller with graded Lincolns? NGC or PCGS are both fine. I'll take PMs if it's a violation of forum rules to post.
I didn't mean to come off as threatening. Even if lots of people started reporting your auctions, I think you'd get a couple levels of "friendly warnings" from eBay before any sort of suspension happened. To me, "lot" means "group". I accept that I'll get some false matches from things like "from a lot I purchased at an estate sale", "lots of luster", and so forth. I also search on "collection" with the same goal, but that term isn't as useful (even though it returns fewer results) because most hits are "a great coin to add to your collection". Again, though, to me "lot" means "multiple". I don't have problems with your other terms; "rare" in particular gets abused a lot on eBay, but to me, any capped-bust coin counts as "rare" at this point.
I have a suggestion, ask the mods if they can start a thread that lists member and their ebay names and sticky it in the BST section.
I have no issues with "lot" I just keep looking until I find what I want. There's so much on eBay, that seeing the single coins isn't that much of a big deal...
Disruptek, coins look just like the photos which are killer. u.s._coins, nice selections. I check these two almost daily. Now I could name quite a few on who NOT to buy from but that's not the question...
