I don't think I have ever bought a coin off of ebay, but I would buy if the seller has good photos and stands behind their product.
The only way you, as a buyer, can get "ripped off" on eBay is by your own doing. Bid your maximum, and don't get in a bidding war and over pay. You're correct that many BIN's for junk silver are priced too high... but look for sellers who utilize the "make offer" option, and then make a fair offer, the same as you would at your LCS. If you have the time to bargain hunt, you might end up being pleasantly surprised.
This thread is very surprising. We are 23 posts in and not one CT member was mentioned yet. I only have two saved sellers in my E-Bay profile. 1) Kryptonitecomics (aka Shane) CT Member 2) Disruptek The reason I search their inventories first is because they have the best photos on E-Bay. Shane takes his own photos and is fantastic and Disruptek has his inventory photographed by Mark Goodman, the guy who wrote the book. There are some other sellers who I will buy from, but these are the only two that I have as saved sellers.
I enjoy buying from other CT members as well, but my favorite is.../ / / / / / / / / / / / / / / I'm not going to release the name. (*coughcough* it begins with d and ends in ott and there's an m in between*)
Ive got a few of your coins catching my eye on the bay! Now only if I can sell some of my not so collectible coins so I can buy one or more of them. I read something on here that made sense. Right now I'm guessing I'm a coin hoarder. I keep everything. But I'd rather have a few nice coins than a million junk coins(not silver junk) so I'm trying to clean the closet out right now and rethinking my collecting.
I've bought from only one for sure CT member, and that's Dutch. I'll have to look at other member's auction. I have bought from Victor from CT but that was through the For Sale forum.
Now that I think of it, I did win a few auctions from a CT member from auctions he had listed here. He still hasn't left me positive feedback though...
This thread is very cool. I've now added a couple sellers to my favorites. I would rather buy from CT members, especially the ones who make cool posts with pretty pictures! In fact...just bid on a few things! Consider this an open invite to PM me your seller ID.
Hey thanks. I rarely list anything here on CT. And I quit selling on ebay years ago. Last time I listed some moderns here I got two sales. Previous listings through the years never brought much in the way of sales here. I think we have a bunch of new members so maybe the listing of coins for sale right here will be more productive! I see many posts from time to time asking where a person can sell coins. And I always say never mind ebay or what have you; list your stuff right here. Give Coin Talk members a first shot. And save the stinkin' ebay fees.
Oh, I forgot his ebay name is different... whoops. My previous post is referring to his CT name. (crap, that gives away the secret person I'm talking about.)
Just a word of advice, if you run across a CT member selling a coin on eBay, and it's a buy-it-now, you should send them a message. Maybe they can sell it directly and save a few bucks in fees.
Here is one I won't be buying from. Qualityuscoins. Guy has over 100 bust halves listed for sale. http://www.ebay.com/sch/Early-Halve...idual&hash=item53f4b83e5b&_ssn=qualityuscoins Each any every one listed as "rare key date" or "rare key".
I'll put in a good word for L&C. I know they're one of the big dealers, but they frequently put up a bucket-full of high-grade registry coins as real auctions: 0.99 starting bid with no reserve, and the market decides the value. I've gotten some good deals from those.
There are literally thousands of threads about bashing E-Bay and E-Bay sellers. There is no need for you to infect this thread with your negativity. If you don't have a good E-Bay seller to talk about, then you should abstain from posting in this thread.
I bought two coins from him, they only sent one. I emailed him, and he apoligized that he must of lost it, and refunded my money instantly. I was pleased when all was said and done.
