    We did,,,

Who and why did we decide to take lady liberty off our coins and put dead presidents and national Monuments on our coins.

We did! Now before you'all jump through the collective hoop at me I know it may not be either you or I or the other fellow but it is our nation, our laws, how leaders, our acceptance, our tolerance or intolerance for and/or against anything that really is our collective nation.
I mean isn't the central question not who or why decided but instead when did we start becoming complacent???
Now I know except for a few commemorative (or special bullion items) that there has not been a classic coin design since mid to late 1940's after Walking Libs. and Winged Liberty head dimes. But what I've got to ask myself is - who did I write to???? who did I complain to???? who did I express my dissatisfaction to about these modern coin designs??? What actual work have I done to affect modern coin designs?
Or did I (and yes I am guilty) just accept the status-quo, not say much, complain to all those around me but never through the correct channels, and not do much of anything????
Yes!! that is what I am guilty of!!!
I don't exactly know when we all ( at least me) became so complacent but we have - it is our nation, our leaders, our acceptance, our tolerance, our complaining a lot but taking little if any constructive actions to change our nation that is at fault - if we have these coin designs we are the ones that chose them, either through blind acceptance or through giving up.
The ones that are responsible are us. If we ever want a great nation like we had until about 1959 we got to get more involved and start pointing that collective finger at ourselves - we are always responsible.

I agree with most of these posts. Maybe it is part nostalgia, but US coin designs have gone downhill since actual persons were portrayed. The one exception is the Sac dollar coin; an appealing design on both sides (imho). I guess it could be worse, however At least we don't have designs (yet) like some of the Euro coins.
