You're absolutely right unbelievable. You still don't get it I guess you have to have a sense of humor . I show you a 1921 vam 11 that has been cleaned with a wire brush to alter its physical appearance- whizzed. The coin that I have displayed has also had someone take a wire brush to it to alter its appearance. And really you do not think someone that has the ability to use the World Wide Web and find about every bit of information on clean whizzed coins. Brooks back when I started collecting 17 years ago the standing definition for a whizzed coin was, someone taking a drill with a wire brush to try and create the illusion cutting grooves in the surface. Nowadays I've heard they're using the dermal tool on the older coins. images-3.jpg Okay from now on no one reading this thread is allowed to kid around joke concerning whizzing. And by all means if you have any questions do not go on the Internet to get any answers. Brooks I guess this is strike three? What are you going to do throw me out of the game.

Please go back and READ what was said about the very coin you posted from vamworld... PLEASE. No wonder why ldhair gets so frustrated with you... you're a nice guy, but man.

And yes... strike three; it's time to warm the bench.

Notice the "easily confused" part? There's your out, and was a fine try, but intentional or not you're again posting misinformation.

Basically usmc60, books is just trying to relate to you that a thread is here forever and if in say 5 or 10yrs from now a guy Google's for whized coin your thread may appear and if it is all misinformation you're doing no good to the future numismatic newbies. While joking around is fun and abundant here it is an imperative to not let misinformation remain searchable in the future.

Fun and games are all good but spreading bad information in the guise of humor is not man.

I hate to say it but I'm with books on this one. :bag: :muted:

AMEN, AMEN and posting misinformation (judging your level of "expertise" from many of your posts I've read, I think you are mostly clueless concerning coins) on purpose to be humorous is just plain stupid. Then starting to annoy...As I wrote in parentheses, I find this is typical of you. At least your photos are getting better so there may be some hope for you. :watching:

I think you should have posted something like: ...to try and create the illusion of original mint luster on the coin's surface.

Well, young and foolish man, it appears that in 17 years you have learned little. I guess we all only know about what we have lived through during our time on earth. Imagine kids now don't know what a dial-up phone or a party-line is.

Here is some numismatic history from fifty years ago. When I started collecting, the ANA taught and defined whizzing (in print) as a chemical process! Thankfully, by 1972 the ANACS staff in DC had put that bit of BS to rest. They also characterized whizzing (as it is regarded by knowledgeable and informed numismatists) to REQUIRE the up-turned edge on a coin's relief. If that characteristic was not present, the coin was buffed and not whizzed. I believe one of the links explains this. Polishing is another completely different process.

No, you're not out, but nobody seems to get the joke. And who's Mr. Brooks?

You've never heard of Mel Brooks. This thread actually seems like a scene in one of his movies :wacky:

    Who's in first?

    Oh, the horror! The horror!

Seriously though, that's it... nothing less or more, and in my clearly offending post I was even sure to be as neutral as possible, not wishing to start an argument, yet here we are.

"Whizzed" seems a commonly misspelled word, and if one googles "whized" (spelling used by the OP) and cointalk, the first result to show is this very thread. Perhaps this will change down the road, and perhaps not, but no matter what happens, an innocent post containing a few neutral links isn't a lack of humor or a knife to anyone's side.

Oh, and by the way; thank you.

OK, this is a picture of a "correctly" whizzed coin from Collectors Universe. When done carefully, doesn't make horrible looking coins, The OP was making a joke which many didn't take the correct way, so let this be an example of a more common whizzed coin:

IMO, not surprising at all. Anytime someone posts something completely stupid or false (as I :bucktooth: have done on at least two occasions :shame: due to my ignorance), it should be corrected swiftly and in a nice manner as was done to me. Then I admitted my error. One post and done; NOT as we see in this thread.

If the offender tries to wiggle out, change the subject, or attack the members who call him out - the downhill ride should go very fast and all should climb aboard for our benefit and for those who will read the posts in the future. :angelic:

Do you mean Abbott and Costello, perchance?

I believe that's Lehigh's coin, the one alluded to earlier in the thread. Thanks for posting it.

Yes that was an autocorrect typo and I wasn't unintentionally mixing Mel with a&c. Just pointing out how this thread seems stuck in the infinaty loop of who's on first.
