An excellent choice! The short cut approach to getting these kind of notes is to score a few Souvenir Cards: 1905 $20 Gold Certificate - Technicolor, IPMS 1981 :thumb:
a large size $2 FRBN -- the "Battleship" one. Not that they're super-hard to find if you don't care about the district, I just haven't been able to come up with the $ for a decent one yet. Most I've spent on a single note is about $300, which generally doesn't get you a battleship (unless it's torn in half, maybe ). I'd be able to afford it if I saved up for a bit, but the hard part is not buying notes for long enough to save up the money... I start saving, and then I happen to go on Heritage or something and say "oh, I'll just get this one..." and before I know it I'm starting the saving-up process from the beginning again. Would love some of the other ones mentioned too -- a "porthole" $5 would be great.
Excellent choice CookieMonster12! On my list as well... maybe someday. Acheron, I also know about the "holding your wad" issue. There's only so much a guy can take before he HAS to buy something new!
I was extremely fortunate to acquire a Revere Sword in Hand note for a very good price from a respected auction house. It is torn in half but it is a bright note. Normally I wouldn't be able to purchase one and I was besides myself when I won the note. I still can't believe it. Only one other bidder on a live auction! The other note I really, really want is the $20 Continental marbled note. I sit, watch and wait. Maybe I'll get lucky like the Revere note. However, like Kathynumismatis, I am on a limited budget and think that the deal I got on the Revere note is a once in a lifetime event. Time will tell.
