2020 has been an extremely interesting year for me. As a senior in high school, not being able to see all my friends and have the normal high school experience was really a let down, but this extra time allowed me more time to focus on my numismatic business. Towards the end of the year, I got into college as well, and a large part of my application focused on numismatics.

To celebrate, I think this is a fitting first purchase for 2021, from the Stackbowers sale. This particular coin holds significance to me, as it was a similar Cromwell coin that I found in a junkbox during my time working as the numismatic expert in a small pawn shop. Despite it being a fake, I remember how excited I was with such a rare coin, and now I'm glad to be able to acquire the real deal! I think its a really nice condition for the grade, and I'm excited to get it!

Photo credits to Stackbowers, will hopefully get better photos in hand. I'll be doing a complete writeup as well. Please post your favorite commonwealth coins, or any new purchases! Cromwell1.JPG Cromwell2.JPG

Were you able to keep the fake? Good to compare them side by side

    Nice pick up too!

Nice coin! My only Commonwealth-era coin.
It was erroneously IDed as a sixpence (vi) instead of half crown (II.vi) so I got a bargain. 1653 Commonwealth half crown. Reverse is way off-rotation from the obverse, but I guess they didn't really care much about that back then. Cromwell half crown 1653 copy.jpeg

Congrats @Obone for getting into college! I can't imagine what a weird year it must have been for you to finish high school and start college during this pandemic. It sounds like you are leveraging your numismatic knowledge well and to acquire such a significant coin so early in your collecting career speaks volumes about where you are headed.

    Here's my Commonwealth crown.

Wow, that's on my list, but will probably stay as a dream for a while I guess
