I have been watching the following two coins for a few weeks now. I can't make up my mind which I like over the other. Your input will help my decision making. Larissa, Thessaly AR Obol
I would go with the second. The first doesnt have as much wear but the second still looks better imo anyway
I would go for the second too, with no hesitation : more wear, but less pitting and better style, to my eyes at least) Just my two cents Q
You want the first one. Off-center horses are dime-a-dozen; the coinage of Larissa is coveted for the facing portraits. The first one has a clear nose. It is better centered and has less corrosion on the obverse. Although there is a bit of corrosion on the first example's horse, it is still in better shape than the second example's worn horse. A good trick with these tiny 9mm coins is to shrink them on your monitor until they are 9mm in size to see what they will look like in-hand. I think the first one pops more at real size, even though it might not be as artistic as the second.
wouldn't it be nice to have the obverse of the first coin on the reverse of the second coin?! it's really close for me, i guess i'd rather have the better obverse....so i'll go 1 as well.
I'm not an (active) ancient collector, but I wish the 1st had the 2nd's reverse. The corrosion is distracting, but that obverse is much, much better. If I had to choose this coin for my wife, I'd choose #2 because she loves horses and would focus on the horse. If I were single and could afford more coins, I'd pick the first one because it shows much more detail, the face is in fantastic shape and the reverse shows all letters and more horse. I'd say go for #1... unless you have a wife who loves horses.
Personally I prefer coin 1. Better centering and details. Not sure what I'm missing, but to me the reverse on #1 looks better.
