I normally follow spot on kitco, but I would really like to be able to follow it real time in candle stick format. I would also love to be able to see volume, rsi, ect. I like stockcharts.com but I'm not sure which ticker to use? can you recommend a symbol and or a good free site?

    Thank you much!! :D

hum... slv is at 29.21 Kitco has it at 30.07

"The objective of the iShares Silver Trust is for the value of the shares of the iShares Silver Trust to reflect, at any given time, the price of silver owned by the iShares Silver Trust at that time, less the iShares Silver Trust's expenses and liabilities. "

I guess that will work. Thank you.

I wonder if there is a site that actually tracks spot like kitco does but with more options like candles.

I believe the silver spot price can be tracked in stockcharts with the symbol $SILVER.

I wouldn't use SLV personally. It has a built in price decay due to it's prospectus in that they have to sell their inventory in order to remain profitable, and their inventory is what drives the price, not the spot price of silver - as I learned from BrotherJohnF on Youtube. Plus their inventory is highly leveraged in paper to physical. BrotherJohnF uses charts for spot price with candles from netdania.com, and it seems to do pretty well.

If you just want a reliable proxy I'd use Sprott's PSLV since it has 1 to 1 physical backing.

Since spot gold generally refes to the current month's gold future., it would be more available to a commodity trding firm. Real time quotes ( which should include volume, bid stack ( level 2), etc. needed to form candlesticks, RSI, etc.) require a fee from the exchange, so most sites will require membership, fees , or to establish accounts.

I utilize TDAmeritrade by having accounts there. If one asks for permission to trade simple options ( whether you actually do or not ) you can obtain the data in real time and use one of their several trading programs. I use their SinkorSwim platform, and it shows the data you ask about, and has a huge number of indicators, and the fees are haandled by TDA unless you are a professional and then you have to pay fees. The level 2 bid/ask stacks often show the direction the momentum that is leading. On TDA, the symbol is /GC and silver is /SI.

Thank you all. once again a wealth of knowledge!!

I think $silver on stockcharts will best serve my needs. It's free and it's labeled as silver spot price. I still surprised to see that it is almost a dollar different than kitco. Is spot something that is up for debate or should it be exactly the same everywhere like a stock price?

$Silver and $Gold on stockcharts is end of day price. (EOD) so it shouldn't change during the day until the commodity market closes. If you want real time, it will have to be through a brokerage or fee based acquistion.

OIC, I should have noticed that! End of day should be fine, now that I know what I am looking at. I'm not day trading, just trying to learn how to chart.

Kitco also has a slight variance from thebulliondesk.com which I tend to lean toward since it has real-time updates every time you refresh the page, as opposed to Kitco which only updates every couple minutes. Even at market close these two sites tend to have a few cent differential, so I look at both to get a broader perspective.
