I can get the following morgans and peace at 37 ea OR i can get brand spanking new commemoratives for 37 ea. What do you guys think is a better bet the morgans or the commems.

I would go for anything other than modern commems.

I agree with Peter, go for the Morgans and Peace. I prefer to have the history along with the silver :)

Depends why you are buying. Are you a coin buyer or a metals buyer? Do you like to collect or are you trying to turn a fast profit? First, stay away from commems no matter what. If you are a metals buyer then go for Silver American Eagles or even small bars etc. If you are a coin buyer then go for certified MSD/PSD. If you buy raw coins then there is a chance that they may have been cleaned and if that is the case they are worth melt. But if you get a coin that has not been cleaned, you can send it off to NGC or PCGS and increase the value. But, that is if it is not a common date. So there is a lot to consider. Buy from someone you can trust that will buy back from you when the time is right.

Assuming the Peace and Morgans are nothing special because the pricing is for silver content alone...buy what you like to look at. There are some cool commemorative dollars out there that will be much more visibly enjoyable than the poor quality Peace or Morgans you will get at that price.

And please PEOPLE, stay away from 90% silver coins that are sold by the bag full. And dont make me have to tell you again! LOL

At $37 per coin, you are paying spot prices. The coins you are talking about will only ever be worth spot...so my advice is buy the coin you like more. As silver prices fluctuate, so will the value of the coin. I prefer Morgan dollars, so that's what I would get. But, buy the coin you like the look of best...because the money is the same and always will be on these.

Speaking for myself, if I could buy a Jackie Robinson silver dollar for $37, I'd buy it. If I were offered a well-worn common-date Morgan or Peace dollar for $37, I'd turn it down.

There are always exceptions to my rule of don't buy commems. There are some like the one you mentioned that I would buy. I have a lot of 1930s commems in stock that are all graded by PCGS/NGS in 64-66 that are just sitting there. So from a sales perspective I always say dont buy them but if your a collector and thats what you like then go for it. But to turn a profit, there are better options.

Go for 1904 (or before) dated Morgans ... or American Silver Eagles
